PETA wants Ben and Jerry’s to use human milk

Posted on September 24th, by Foodio54 in Restaurant News. No Comments

Yes, you read that correctly, PETA thinks that ice cream made from breast milk will sell… apparently they never watched Friends.

Won’t you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow’s milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry’s ice cream? Thank you for your consideration.

–Tracy Reiman, Executive Vice President of PETA

First of all… yuck.

Second of all… yuck

I don’t think that PETA actually thought that this suggestion would be acted on. Instead, I think they thought that gullible blogs would write about it (wait a second…), and give them extra exposure. Clearly, you don’t need an MBA from Harvard to know that breast milk ice cream won’t sell and would seriously tarnish your brand.

Ben & Jerry’s issued a statement that says “We applaud PETA’s novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but … Read More »

Get a 1950′s diner for free

Posted on September 22nd, by Foodio54 in Restaurant News. No Comments

Not a dinner, you get the entire diner, and of course there is a catch.

Jerry Grubb, the owner of the Huntingdon, PA Grubb’s Diner for the past 52 years closed his doors last year to make room for a pharmacy, but he is willing to give it away to anyone who wants to move it.

That’s right a free $100,000 diner if you can get it off of the premises. A lot of the work is already done though. Mr. Grubb has already loaded the 68-foot-long diner a mile up the road and it is still sitting on two flatbed trailers. The new buyer just needs to arrange for those trailers to be hauled to where ever they think a 1950’s style diner is needed, but the locals wouldn’t mind if a place was found in town.

In an ideal world, someone … Read More »

Colors Restaurant NYC

Posted on September 11th, by Foodio54 in General, Restaurant News. No Comments

With today being the 7th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, we thought that we would showcase a restaurant that has its roots in this history of that terrible day.

Colors, in New York City is a 120 seat cooperative restaurant that is owned by many former workers of the Windows on the World restaurant. Windows on the World was located on the 106th and 107th floors of the North Tower of the World Trade Center, and sadly all 73 restaurant employees along with all restaurant patrons present at the time of the attacks perished on September 11th, 2001.

The menu for Colors was taken from the 50+ owners of the restaurant who all submitted a family recipe to showcase the diversity of the original Windows on the World staff. In fact the name “Colors” comes from the 22 countries that make … Read More »

While Starbucks cuts back, Dunkin’ Donuts expands

Posted on September 10th, by Foodio54 in Restaurant News. No Comments

So just a few weeks after Starbucks closed 600 stores in the US, but Dunkin’ Donuts sees an opportunity to expand.

Called by some the “anti-Starbucks” because of its more blue collar customers, Dunkin’ Donuts is planning to have 15,000 US Stores by 2020. Now 2020 is a long way away, in fact it’s when NASA wants to return to the moon, but still this could be a sign of things to come. So instead of having a Starbucks in the parking lot of a Target that also has a Starbucks we might see that silliness with Dunkin’ Donuts in the future.

15,000 stores is a lot, and in fact that would put them over McDonald’s (14,000) and Starbucks (11,000) in the US.

In the end, McDonald’s may be the real target of this move for Dunkin’ Donuts. The people who are willing … Read More »
