Cinco de Mayo in Austin, TX

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican Holiday that celebrates the victory over invading French forces in 1862. Today it’s celebrated all over the world with parades, traditional Mexican food and drinks.  It’s often confused as the Mexican equivalent of the Fourth of July, but it is actually more of a moral victory.  Mexico declared it’s independendence on September 16, 1810.  You may already be planning where you want to go out and get some drinks on Cinco de Mayo here in Austin, but you may not have started thinking about where you want to grab something great to eat.

Here in Austin we have a lot of great options available to us for great Mexican food, but we have put our critical taste buds to the test to provide you with a list of the best in town.

Detroit Restaurant Week, kicking off April 19 and running through Sunday, April 28.

Detroit restaurant week is about to kick off.  This years experience will feature a small number of fine dining restaurants located around the city.  For just $30 you can go to any of these restaurants and sample some of their finest dishes and anywhere from 2 to 8 courses.  The $30 does not include tips or drinks.  Make sure you make reservations for prime dining hours as those will fill up quickly.

Restaurant: Impossible Visits Woodstock, IL

Restaurant: Impossible is about turning around a failing restaurant.  Now this is a difficult enough task, but show host Robert Irvine attempts to do this in just 2 days with less than $10,000.  Mr. Irvines track record is more than just good – it’s down right amazing.

Out of the 74 restaurants that he has attempted to “turn-around” on the show he has succeeded in all but 9!

This week Restaurant: Impossible will attempt to turn around Angelo’s Restaurant in Woodstock, IL. Angelo’s restaurant was actually featured in the movie ‘Groundhog Day’ with Bill Murray.  Surprisingly, this information was not mentioned anywhere by the restaurant themselves.  Images like the one here were provided by their customers.

Taste of Alpharetta

The city of Alpharetta, GA is lining up restaurants for it’s anual Taste of Alpharetta.  Right now, more than 50 restaurants have already signed up for the city’s 23rd running of the event.  This year the crowds are expected to reach over 40,000 people to came and try some of the area’s most unique food.  Admittance will be free this year, but patrons will need to purchase tickets in order to try the food at a cost of 10 tickets for $5.

Cleveland Is Getting A Facelift

It’s been a long time coming, but Cleveland is finally getting a well needed face-lift to it’s once vibrant bar and restaurant scene.  Cleveland, like many other Rust Belt cities, has struggled enormously since heavy manufacturing left the area.  For the last 20 years the downtown area has seen continual decline in every major facet of it’s existence.  Cleveland’s best known brewery, Great Lakes Brewery, came up with a genius tongue in cheek commercial about keeping Cleveland’s glass “half-full” for the last 25 years. This would signal to most people that the city itself is in an unrecoverable tailspin and that hope for recovery might be off the table.  But most people would be wrong.

Seattle – Restaurant Week

Well it’s restaurant week in Seattle.  Over the next 10 days over 160 restaurants will be participating in the the event.  Restaurant goers can go to each of these restaurants and get and try a three-course meal for only $28 for dinner and $15 for lunch. This is a great way to try new restaurants and also an opportunity to try some award winning food for a great price!

Little Caesars adds Deep! Deep! Dish Pizza

Well it’s quite possible that the last few days have been the most exciting days ever -in the world – if you love cheap national chain pizza.  First, we announced that Pizza Hut is introducing a new stuffed crust pizza, The Crazy Cheesy Crust pizza and then in a dramatic turn of events we learn that Detroit based Little Caesars is also adding a new pie, the Deep! Deep! Dish Pizza.

It’s the pizza franchise’s biggest product launch in it’s 54 years of existence Little Caesars is jumping in to the deep dish pizza business.  Little Caesars rocked our worlds when they decided to start offering their pizzas “Hot-N-Ready” for pickup without having to order ahead.  The new Deep! Deep! Dish Pizzas will also be available as well as a Hot-N-Ready dish for just $8 between 4pm and 8pm.
