The 5 Worst Drinks In America

Today I’m going to illuminate you on 5 drinks that you may have thought were bad….but had no idea they were this bad.  Almost all of these drinks are worse for you than any sandwich you can order at McDonalds and what’s worse is that most people don’t consider these that bad.  If you thought that Latte you were drinking was a “Skinny Latte” you might just find out that it has more fat in it than a Big Mac. So We’re going to start out this list with an American favorite Starbucks.

Runner Up

Starbucks Venti 2% Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha
660 Calories
22g fat (14 g saturated)
95 g Sugar

Any drink with this long of a name is bound to be bad for you.  If it takes you two minutes to order your drink it will take you 2 hours to work it off.

Number 5

Baskin Robbins Pomegranate Banana Fruit Blast Smoothie
1,020 Calories
232 g Sugar

Smoothies are supposed to be healthy for you people!  The second ingredient in this drink is sugar which makes you wonder how little fruit is actually in the drink.  Why on earth would anyone order this!?  You know why?  Because it’s absolutely delicious isn’t it?

Number 4

Cosi Gigante Double OH! Arctic
1,033 Calories
35 g Fat
177 g Carbs

Only the Double Quarter Pounder with cheese has more fat in it.  Do I really need to say more?

Number 3

Jamba Juice Peanut Butter Moo’d Power Smoothie
1,170 Calories
169 g Sugar

This is really more of a milkshake rather than a smoothie.  This drink has more sugar in than 12 King Size 3 Musketeers bars. I’m pretty sure this is the drink that Oprah drinks when she magically gains 30 pounds.

Number 2

Baskin Robbins Large York Peppermint Pattie Shake
2,210 Calories
103 g Fat (57 g Saturated)
281 g Sugar

This drink is officially the most sugar saturated drink in America and probably the world.  You would have to eat 9 Chocolate Frosted Donuts at Dunkin Donuts to equal the calories in this behemoth.

Number 1

And the Worst Drink in America is….

Baskin Robbins Large Heath Bar Shake
2,310 Calories
108 g Fat (64 g Saturated)
266 g Sugar

You just kind of need to stand back to appreciate this one.  This drink is an entire days worth of calories, two days of fat, and enough sugar to jump-start Rosie Odonnell’s heart.  There should be a health warning and an age restriction on this drink.

  1. alapoet Says:

I’ve gotta get me one of those Baskin Robbins Heath Bar Shakes!

I can’t believe these things were out there and I didn’t know about them.

    I’ve been missing out!

Thanks for the tips. See you later; I’m headed to Baskin Robbins.

  2. JohnSmith2008 Says:

    alapoet,

enjoy your shake, we’ll see you in the intensive care ward in about 3 years.

  3. nw Says:

since when is a milkshake a drink? despite the fact that it is sucked through a straw, it is clearly a dessert, not a beverage.

  4. mamajama Says:

It may be a dessert, but it is still drank through a straw. Also, they are offered in many fast food establishments as a substitution for soft drinks. Even as a dessert, 2,310 calories is excessive.

  5. Fatima Says:

Get the nonfat milk when you go to Starbucks - no sugar. I use Splenda. Isn’t the skinny latte suppose to use nonfat milk? How does it have more fat than a big mac? I find that hard to believe considering all the trans fats in a big mac.

  6. Chris Says:

Wow… no wonder I love to make my coffee at home and skip all the expensive calorie laden drinks.

  7. Kelly Says:

I wonder why people making lists like this…it’s not like these drinks/foods are the plague. It’s an obvious ‘duh’ when you look at the title of these beverages.

  8. sp Says:

Granted they are all high calorie, high sugar, high fat drinks, but the majority of us don’t suck down a Baskin Robbins Large Heath Bar Shake for breakfast everyday. Perspective, people. These are meant to be indulgences once in awhile so you shouldn’t really be shocked at the numbers.

  9. Lum Fong Says:

Unless you are completely stupid this drink is harmless. Only a moron would think this could hurt you:

2,310 Calories, 108 g Fat (64 g Saturated), 266 g Sugar - this has to be the perfect breakfast drink.

    JohnSmith2008 are you kidding?

alapoet go enjoy your shake, in fact have 2.

  10. annette Says:

but wait - where’s the Dunkin Coolata - it’s like 5/6 heavy cream lusciousness.

  11. sir jorge Says:

i’m going to go with NW on this one, shakes aren’t necessarily drinks.

  12. anon Says:

I notice that in the title of the two baskin robins drinks, it says large. I see venti and gigante.. but I bet the two baskin robins drinks are massively larger compared to the rest, especially considering that their calorie content is double or more of any of the other drinks. If you’re going to compare them you really should compare on an ounce to ounce level…. cuz seriously I bet star-yucks has them at least tied.

  13. paresh Says:

later when anybody order for shakes i remember ur blog. nice collection.

  14. Mr. Health Care Says:

Part of the hidden point of shakes is that some people feel they are not “all dessert,” helping people fool themselves psychologically. Put a bunch of ice cream in a bowl and people feel warier about the health impact.

So I think it’s good to break that (admittedly small) illusion and put these in the categories of “drinks.”

  15. asithi Says:

But the perception is that since it is in the liquid form, it is a drink like water and soda. I rather eat my dessert.

  16. thexman98 Says:

    nw:
milkshakes have always been consider drinks not desserts. where did you get the idea that it is a dessert?
    -xavier-

  17. shadhe Says:

    nw, stop being a twerp. I DRINK a milkshake, i don’t eat a milkshake.
    As for this list… oh… my… god.
Does anyone drink water any more these days? or tea??

  18. INSERTNAME Says:

Pardon me, but it’s a drink. I will not tolerate you suggesting i eat my lunch and my dessert at the same time. Rule of thumb, if it’s ingested through a straw it is a drink.

  19. A Says:

nm, how is a milkshake not a drink? It is a liquid, a beverage, call it what you will…it can be classified in the dessert category but it is still a drink. And all of these are awful and further proof of how ass backwards american society is

  20. Adeline Says:

    I think it’s a beverage.

  21. casper911ca Says:

I eat and Drink what i want. Second, this a lot has to do with portion size. Im willing to bet that these things are humongous, more like something you could buy small or share with a friend or three. my two cents. I can think of worse things to put in your body then a milk shake. Im with alapoet on this one, these look great!

  22. DoDoDo Says:

JohnSmith2008 - you, sir, are an asshat.

  23. Sharon Says:

Get the Americano from Starbucks with steamed soy (if you like cream) and use a splenda only about 25 calories for a Grande!!!

  24. Ritchard Says:

    Wow, astonishing.

Once in a while indulgences? 2200 calories is not an indulgence, it’s a daily caloric intake for a good sized man.

In Canada a huge item is frozen coffee drinks from Tim Horton Donuts. They are absolute fat and sugar festivals as well.

  25. Rebecca Says:

This kind of thing makes me so mad.

Why do they even make such grossly over-caloried things? You can make a delicious shake for 200-600 calories and people would buy just as many of them, so it’s not an economic necessity. Why even make them? No wonder Americans are getting so obese. With all these ridiculously fattening, high-calorie foods and drinks and understated nutritional information, finding nutritional food is a huge burden on the consumer. I really really wish the FDA would do more nutritional regulation so it would be easier to identify truly healthy products and force restaurants to serve healthier foods.

  26. Personal Trainer Says:

These are wonderful drinks for making the fat in problem areas more of a problem. I hope everyone who actually drinks these knows they’re unhealthy.

  27. S Says:

Hello people, all of these drink are excessively caloric because the calories come from the simplest grown source in the USA farm belt: corn. Corn becomes the high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, it sweetens the whipped cream, and even 10% of corn is made into plastic that goes into the cup in which it is held. The milk is made from corn to, because who else is force-fed it but the cows who make it?

  28. S Says:

P.S. this is called “food science”

  29. Kylie Wrath Says:

    pwned

  30. Monica Says:

    I’ll take the #5 :]

  31. Karen Says:

This is why there are so many obese people in the world. They drink these things daily and never even worry about the calories. One of my number one rules is never drink your daily calories. Needless to say I will never have one of the drinks.

  32. C Fan Says:

You missed Culver’s and their chocolate shake for example:

    Chocolate Shake, Tall 1083 calories, 52 g fat, 32 g sat fat, 136 carbs

Doesn’t quite compete with the top two, but easily should make the list.

By the way, Culver’s shakes have an unbelievable taste! Good thing I don’t live near one…

  33. Gert Says:

I just ran a marathon, and my iPod Nike+ told me that I just burned 4000 calories.
Baskin Robbins Large Heath Bar Shake is 2310 Calories…..that’s more than half the calories of a marathon….sick….!

  34. sobobeeyatch Says:

These milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard!

  35. Brady Says:

    sobobeeyach: Best comment so far!

Rebecca: Yeah, that’s what we need, more of the government telling us what we can and can’t do because it’s bad for us. I mean, it’s not like I can be trusted to make my own decisions….

Seriously, if you are suckin down a large shake with your double burger and X-tra biggie fries everyday I’d say that’s a bit much, and yes 2000+ calories for one food item is WAY excessive, but can’t I have a shake on a saturday when I go out with my wife and kids without catching grief from every wannabe nutritionist on the planet? Is that so much to ask? Seriously?

  36. mignonmec Says:

I think the worst drinks are the ones people actually think aren’t that bad…. Those coffee drinks are Starbucks are one culprit. Another is almost anything at Jamba Juice that has the “yogurt” ice cream stuff. People think because there is fruit in it that it must be good for you or that you could do worse.

I think soda is horribly deceptive. I’m surprised at how many people don’t know how much sugar is in it and yet drink it everyday… and let their kids drink it…ehmmm Britney.

  37. Babak Says:

    Yes , They’re really bad.
    Thank you for telling us…

  38. sobeit Says:

I’ve never had any of these drinks and don’t plan to start….portion matters and so do calories…if you are very active and fit, one of these once in a great while would not hurt..people who drink and/or eat these types of drinks and food on a daily basis are the obese ones and later on will most likely have health problems for which eventually most of us will pay for one way or the other

  39. Lola Says:

you cant push nutrition on people. . .they have to want to learn or want to change.

we all have a general idea of whats bad for us and only we can make that choice for our body.

i was in love with taco bell for years. got up to 250 pounds. i stopped eating fast food and i stopped drinking soda and i started eating healthier portions. im now 180.

ive never had cravings for coffee or milkshakes. i dont have a sweet tooth but maybe if someone is struggling this will help you.

i think its a great idea to post nutritional values for the public to see. I never knew how horrible these drinks really were. . .and to those of you who could care less about this and/or want to gain wait then i guess enjoy your shake.

  40. Alnoga Says:

These are Darwin drinks. They do look delicious, though. I may end up a few (dozen) pounds heavier by the end of the summer if my pancreas survives.

  41. jambagroupie Says:

I work at Jamba Juice, and I know how bad the peanut butter mood is. in fact, it is the drink with the highest calories on the menu. but it is also chock full of protein. it’s better than a real milkshake because of the non-fat frozen yogurt, soy milk, and the fact that there are no additives in any of is. Jamba doesn’t add sugar, high fructose corn syrup, color, or anything else to any of its products. People say it’s unhealthy, and that may be right…if you get a power sized smoothie to go with your big Chipotle burrito. but if you get an original drink with a soy protein boost, it’s the same as a meal. especially if you do one of the all-fruit or blended with a purpose drinks. Jamba may not be the healthiest place out there, but it is by no means unhealthy. it’s all natural, and yummy.

  42. Emma Says:

Here’s the thing… These companies aren’t creating these drinks with secret evil plans to make America fat. They wouldn’t continue to sell these drinks if there wasn’t a demand for them; that’s just economics at its most basic level. So instead of blaming the companies and getting all worked up about lax FDA regulations, just be glad that you are smart enough not to order one of these for yourself, if you find them so disgusting. Just don’t get all self-righteous about it.

  43. René Says:

Is there a Baskin Robbins Large Heath Bar Light or Diet Shake ? (100+ cal?). If so where can I get it?

  44. Kristy Says:

You know Splenda is sugar that has been bleached? It and asparteme cause alzheimer’s and all sorts of degenerative diseases. They’re only in the market because of corruption and bribery. Don’t let that in your body or of anyone you love. Do some checking and see for yourself.

  45. Cate Says:

I read the worst drink and I get 5 pouns!!! ha, ha, Get away…………

  46. mike Says:

What the hell is wrong with you? stop misleading people about these companies, sure their shakes have tons of fat and are unhealthy, but why are you making the assumption that people get a large super sized drink size anyway? You would be sick to your stomach after finishing 2/3 of the drink considering that amount of fat….

so post some medium sized or regular sized information and quit screwing people over with your hyperboles.

  47. tony Says:

I drink buckets of lard for a goof, jigga what?
