Today the goal was to get from Fargo, ND to Rapid City, SD, however I needed to dip down into Iowa and Nebraska.

The drive down from Fargo to Iowa was pretty easy and once I got to Sioux City, IA Foodio54 recommended Bev’s on the River. My first reaction when I walked in was, whoa, this is going to be expensive, however the entire menu was very affordable. The inside is very large and covered with stonework that would make one think that they are in for a big bill. It was also delicious. I had an island chicken sandwich that consisted of teriaki chicken with pineapple. Because it was a nice day I decided to eat outside and I’m very glad I did, as the name says the restaurant is on the river and it has a fantastic view.

Next was Nebraska and I stopped in the small town of O’Neill for pizza at Casey’s. I love pizza, and if this was nearby me in Cleveland I’d probably eat here frequently. Because there weren’t many recommendations available for O’Neill I went with this even though it was predicted to be a 3, and I think that was a good choice for a rating, I’d rate it about the same as something like Domino’s.

Despite some rain, the drive from O’Neill to Rapid City was amazing going past dozens of huge ranches with hundreds of cows and on to the rolling hills of southern South Dakota.

On a final note, Americans in all three states today had their flags out everywhere for Memorial Day, and certainly Foodio54 and I would like to thank all of our veterans, especially those who died in service, for keeping our nation safe and free for nearly 233 years and counting. Further on in the trip I’ll visit some historic places like Yorktown, Gettysburg, the Alamo, and more where past generations of Americans fought for freedom just like today’s generation.
