I’m sure that many of us have found ourselves at one point or another digging into that snickers bar or a slice of the Cheesecake Factory’s Dulce de Leche cheesecake for no reason other than to replace our sadness with something sweet and satisfying. Those moments may often times be fleeting, a quick fix to having a bad day or getting into an argument with a loved one. However, for many of us, they are moments that we struggle with on a daily basis without any glimpse at the light at the end of the tunnel. We walk around hiding our pain from others because when we do expose that pain they tell us to rise above and overcome it as if it is a choice that one can just easily make. This battle that rages inside as many as … Read More »
Kerbey Lane Cafe is an Austin staple and since we found out that they make a chocolate chip pancake that is loaded with chocolate chips our daughter has made it her go to place when we ask her what restaurant she wants to go to for dinner.
Tonight was one of those occasions. Kerbey Lane Cafe has been serving up awesome food for over 30 years around Austin. They are open 24 hours a day and have a menu filled with gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan friendly options. They are also the only restaurant in town where I can go to get an Iced Tea that is sweetened with Agave Nectar.
Our go-to Kerbey Lane is the Northwest location at 13435 HWY 183 North, Austin, TX 78750. We always sit outside on their patio area. It’s nice and open, they’ve got a bar … Read More »
Beso is not just the Spanish word for kiss. It also happens to be the Latin American/Middle Eastern/Mediterranean fused restaurant owned by actress Eva Longoria and celebrity chef Todd English.

Nestled on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Ivar Street, this restaurant’s decor lives up to its romantic name. As you walk in through the entrance you are immediately welcomed by Spanish poetry that has been delicately etched in glass along the wall. The blackened windows and candlelit interior help set the mood for the exotic and whimsical night to come.

After you have made your way to your table and cozied up to your honey under the glamorous dangling chandeliers, open up the menu and treat yourself to Tequila Spa cocktail, infused with tres sietes silver, red grapes, cucumber, lemon, and lime $14. … Read More »
I took an environmental philosophy course in college and the professor had us read Margaret Atwood’s novel Oryx and Crake. Essentially the book takes place after a genetically engineered pandemic wipes out all of civilization. All that is left roaming the world are a number of genetically engineered humans and hybrid beasts.
It has been 7 years since I last read that book and the thought of bioengineering and genetically modified anything still makes me squirm a little bit. So when I woke up Monday morning and read the news to see that the world’s first lab-grown beef burger was cooked and eaten by a couple of foodies, I couldn’t help but immediately shutter at the thought of what we are capable of doing with the knowledge of science.
I don’t want you to think that I am writing this article with … Read More »
I am OCD. No, I’m not just saying that. I was clinically diagnosed with OCD when I was twelve years old. My obsession? Cleanliness. If you have a dirty toilet in your home I will call you out on it. Cleaning is not only something that I have to do, it is also something that I actually generally enjoy doing. My home is clean, my classroom is clean, and when I go to restaurants, I bus my own table. It used to drive Andrew crazy but now he’ll even help me stack the dishes and pick the crumbs up off the table when we go out to eat.
Having said that, I am almost 100% sure that I have an invisible hole in my mouth. I chew with my mouth closed but I somehow always manage to get food either all … Read More »
Foodio54 Co-Founder Andrew Glass is in Los Angeles this week on business so I thought we would go ahead and feature a LA- based Michelin award winning restaurant in honor of that. Plus, I figured we could give him something to drool over
In last week’s article, Deleyla Dreams of Jiro’s Sushi, I broke down the various Michelin star ratings and what they mean. This week’s restaurant pick, Hatfield’s, is a one-star Michelin award recipient. This means it’s a great restaurant, the food is consistent and has high standards, and is definitely worth a visit. So if you live in LA or the surrounding areas then this restaurant needs to be on your list of go-to places to eat.

It’s Friday! It’s a whopping 98 degrees outside and we needed a family friendly place to enjoy a nice lunch. We started brainstorming places we could take our little girl to go eat and I needed to write a blog article, so we combined those two thoughts together and thus Family Friendly Fridays was born. Each Friday we’ll head out and try a new family friendly establishment in Austin and feature it here. If you live here in Austin or are traveling to this beautiful city with your family consider this your go to resource for family friendly eats!

It seems like these days the government is all up in everyone’s business, most specifically on what we are and are not allowed to do with our bodies. Texas and Ohio have been in the news with their crack down on a woman’s right to choose and Mayor Bloomberg more recently has been fighting tooth and nail for his right to ban large sugary drinks from being served to the people of his city. It appears that these individuals in power are riding on a very slippery slope, so the question then becomes to what extent are we going to allow them to determine what we do with our bodies?
Obesity is an epidemic in this country. I for one am someone who has a hard time putting down the Agave Nectar Sweet Tea served at my local Coffee … Read More »
I love Sandra Bullock. If there was a woman that I could choose to settle down with and make babies with, it would be Sandra Bullock. She is gorgeous and timeless. No matter what day of the week it is she looks absolutely flawless. She speaks two languages fluently, has the cutest little boy, and is an Academy-Award winning actress. She is a hottie with a body and I happen to live in the city where she owns Bess Bistro and Walton’s Fancy and Staple.

Now I have wanted to eat at both establishments since I arrived in Austin two years ago, but I am absolutely terrified at the small possibility that she may happen to be there when I go. Like I said before, I would bend down on one knee, ask … Read More »
Last night I watched an old episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives where Guy Fieri showcased three family-friendly restaurants. Needless to say my salivary glands went into overdrive and I found myself drooling all over my pillow at the thought of chowing down on some of those tasty treats. Today I would like to feature one of those restaurants simply because they serve the biggest hamburger and hotdog I have ever seen in my life. What can I say? I’m easily impressed!

The name Hillbilly Hot Dogs is not meant to be offensive or funny. According to the owners, it symbolizes the vision that they have for their 12×16 hot dog stand. The lovebirds, Sharie and Sonny, wanted to create a place where people would go … Read More »
