The world of Fast Food is filled with both successes and failures. We are all familiar with the successes that have become a part of our regular vocabulary. Big Mac, Whopper, Burrito Supreme… the list really could go on and on. But, we tend to forget how many failures pave the way for those successes and how difficult it is for large scale restaurant chains to alter or add to their menus at all.

Last month the headlines were abound with articles ridiculing the proposed budget for McDonald’s hourly employees making $7.25 hourly. The budget journal, a result of McDonald’s joining forces with Visa, proposed that its workers have two full-time jobs and pay as little as $20 a month for health insurance and $600 a month for rent. It was unrealistic and laughed at by all.
Now labor organizers are calling upon fast-food workers across the country to go on strike August 29th to pressure restaurant chains to raise the hourly wage from an average of $8.94 to $15. One-day job walkouts are expected to take place in New York City, Washington D.C., St. Louis, Milwaukee, and Detroit.

Wendy’s has finally been acquired by Arbys parent company Triarc in a deal that has been going on for about 12 months. Wendys shareholders will recieve 4.2 shares of Triarc for every 1 share that they owned of Wendys.
This deal will give Triarc more than 10,000 restaurants and more than $12 billion dollars in annual sales. That having been said it is still less than half of what fast food gian McDonalds has.
Wendys first quarter earnings fell 72% on Thursday.
