Jubilee Seafood CO Inc on Apr 12, 2014

The Jubilee Seafood Company is obviously doing something right. Despite the décor being a half step up from shabby diner, the much to bright lighting, and the unimaginative side dishes, the place was packed the entire time we were there. If you are in the area, pay Jubilee a visit. Sit at the bar, order some oysters and watch the who’s who of the Gump brush elbows with the locals over dinner.

There is a menu but we opted for the buffet. I was a bit disappointed that there was no fish on the buffet but I made do with the available vegetables.

The presentation was excellent, with two big serving trays, one in the shape of a boat. There was so much sushi, that my friend actually could not finish her half and I had to (twist my arm) finish the rest by myself. There was a few rolls on the plate and they were both tasty. One Was a doctored up tuna of some kind and the other was and inside out roll. Both rolls were not to "westernized" i.e. no cream cheese or cooked stuff inside. Thumbs up on that. There was an ample variety of Nigiri and Sashimi, I can honestly say I was not missing anything...

The Peachtree Special is a wood-fired chicken sandwich with white cheddar, bacon, onion mayo, and an onion roll. It sounded amazing; it was sadly nothing special. The seasoned fries were excellent.

Log Cabin Pancake House was by no means the best restaurant we tried during our stay in Gatlinburg, however, it is a good option for tourists looking for a quick, affordable restaurant near all the Gatlinburg attractions.

I would definitely recommend Hard Rock Cafe to any tourist looking for an upbeat restaurant with a wide variety of menu choices. Hard Rock is the ideal choice in Gatlinburg for a casual, lively dining experience with family or friends, and the perfect choice before/after your other Gatlinburg events and activities.

All in all, this place had some points against it and some for it. The pros: the portions were good, the selection was good, and the quality was satisfactory. The cons: the place was a little dirty and a little dubious. I made the mistake at looking at the side of the tablecloth that was draping down in front of me; it was disgusting.

Between the hubs and I, and my five coworkers we had a 2.5 star rating, two 3.5 stars, and four 4 stars, for a rounded average of 4 stars. Plan to wait and be crowded and rush if you go now, but even if you give Sobban some time, be sure to give it a try. It's a special little fusion joint in a special little building and I wish it good luck!

  • Annie's Thai Castle in Atlanta

    Annie's Thai Castle on Oct 23, 2013

I didn't have my socks knocked off by Annie's Thai Castle, but I enjoyed reasonably-priced and well-made mainstream american thai food. I'm not sure if Annie's has seen a decline since the hype that I have picked up on over the year, or if I am just missing something obvious. Either way, I'm okay with it because (finally) when coworkers ask for suggestions for lunch, I can whip out Annie's as an affordable alternative to some of Buckhead's other offerings. 3 stars.

Unfortunately, all four pastries we tried tasted basically the same: sweet bread with slight hint of X flavor. The drinks are the same price as Quickly, a little cheaper than Sweet Hut, but I wasn't thrilled with my Blueberry Milk Tea. The boba was off: it tasted too much like its own thing and didn't blend well with the drink.
