  • TheTraveler reviewI had heard a lot of hype about this restaurant and one of my friend's was celebrating her birthday there. Since I had heard mixed reviews, I went in with an open mind.Well, I was VERY disappointed. The service was awful, the margaritas were weak, the prices were ridiculously expensive for what you got, the food was pre-packaged (the waiter told a friend of mine that he couldn't split up the seafood enchiladas because they were frozen and pre-packaged), everyone at my table felt sick later that night, and I got salsa and margaritas dropped on my by the waiter who didn't clean up the mess around my table at all (and no apology either).I contacted management about the whole ordeal and they sent me gift cards that still sit in my jewelry box. Even if my next meal is free there, I won't be going back and I'm sorry that some people are so disillusioned by the great atmosphere that they think this food is quality. My dear readers, someone at my table described it perfectly: it's the Wal-Mart of Mexican food (without the low prices). I'd be much happier at Los Quates, Santiago's, or even Garduno's. By far the most overrated restaurant in Albuquerque- don't waste your money, go someplace else.

  • VolmaWashington reviewIm from Wisconsin but i lived in New Mexico while in high school. Upon my last visit i dined at El Pinto. I have never had such wonderfuly authentic new mexican food before. You pay a smidge more than an average restraunt, but the results are definatly worth it. The green chili is to die for. the chili ribs are nreal, and the house specialty chili con carne enchiladas were toe curling. the server was helpful, and our food was in good time to enjoy my company and a fine margarita. The atmosphere is breathtaking and i would reccomend this restraunt to anybody that visits within an hour of Albuquerque.

  • hmnbrd333 reviewThis was absolutely THE best place to eat in Albuquerque, the ambiance and the atmosphere you receive as well as the quality of food is extraordinary and could easily cost a lot more. The service is fantastic and the quality of the dining experience is even better. You cannot match nor beat the experience of eating at El Pinto, it is an absolute necessity to any trip to Albuquerque.

  • twborbely reviewThis is the priciest mexican restaurant I have ever seen. The wait staff was very impolite and service was very slow. I tried the Green Chile Enchiladas, they were so soggy, there was no texture to them, it was just like spooning their green salsa with a cheese topping. While trying to make up my mind on what to order, I asked the waitress how big the ribeye steak was and she responded `sometimes they are small sometimes they are bigger`, have they ever heard of describing steaks in ounces?. The portion size was pretty small considering they charge $10.99 for this plate, the beans tasted like they came out of a can. I was very disappointed with the service and don't recommend this restaurant.

  • twborbely reviewThis has been one of my all time favorite restraunts for over 20 years...the owners, Jim and John are indentical twins..one of them is usually at the restraunt...ask to meet them and tell them Joy recomended the El Pinto on the web. They have no idea I'm doing this, or that this little old lady even has a computer. :) In warm weather you might enjoy eatting outside on one of their patios, listening to live music...You won't be disappointed!!!!!

  • r_u_thinking_2 reviewAs this expansive restaurant has grown in size, the food and service have both gone downhill. If you don't mind very average New Mexican food...then the atmosphere may make up for it...the patio is especially nice, and the restaurant's location in Albuquerque's far-North Valley, gives one a sense of having escaped the hustle and bustle of the city environment.

  • ChefMozWe've just dined at El Patio in December 2006, and our experience was totally different from the previous reviewer in October. We both had the "Taco Salad," and it was the first time in 20 years in Albuquerque that there was more meat than lettuce/cheese in the "salad." There must have been 1/2lb. of ground and seasoned beef! The shell was also delicious. Service was a little slow, but it was a busy weekday lunch crowd. If you want to eat at the buffet, come early; hings were dried out by the time we arrived at 1:30pm so we passed on that. Very nice bar area though. Ask for the "fireplace" room in winter... try the nice patios in summer. El Pinto has had its ups and downs, especially service-wise. They got too big, and lost some of the personal service. Our experience however, was a pleasant one, and the food very good, and generous! Worthy of a try: Also, located in a nice, semi-rural area on (far-north) 4th Street in Albuquerque's North Valley.

  • ChefMozMy tamale must have been from the freezer because it was partly cold. The salad's cheese and lettuce tasted like food from a school cafeteria! Terrible! Service was just okay. At least the waitress gave us my meal for free. She seemed embarrassed that the food was so pathetic.

  • ChefMozGreat atmosphere but terrible food. Comparable to Pancho's or a frozen dinner but $15 a plate.

  • ChefMozPresident Clinton and President Bush ate El Pinto food so it seems to be enjoyed by a wide variety. I like the place, service and food has been very good/excellent. The patio and fountains add a touch of class to this large hacienda style restaurant and cantina. Groups of over a hundred people can easily be handled by this family run business which serves a wide variety of New Mexican food. Reasonable prices and a first class restaurant. Some have said the place is over rated, but I suspect their dining tastes are just different. If you like it red or green and really enjoy tamales or ribs then El Pinto is worth a visit or two.

  • ChefMozI was in town on a Sunday and had heard of El Pinto so I decided to try their Sunday brunch. It was outstanding with dozens of dishes, none of which disappointed. Anyone who loves Mexican and New Mexican food will adore this place. Bring your appetite!

  • JP B.They have both mild and hot choices for the red and green chile. Anything smoothered in chile is good.

    55555 by JP B.

  • Project F.Not a lot of bang for your buck, the food is decent but pricey for what you get. However, the patio is worth the price alone and the green chile is great (but only if you ask for the hot).

  • PatrickFood was good, not great. Chile lacked heat. Salsa and sauces tasted a little bit commercial (and granted they do make commercial salsa's and sauces) but all that being said the place is GORGEOUS!
