• My husband loves this place. It has some definite pros and cons. The first con, to me, is the location. It's right in Oak Hill on the corner where 290 meets 71. This can get super congested at any time of the day, so you have to be prepared for the possibility of sitting in traffic. Secondly, not every employee makes the same sandwich the same way. I've had the Southside Authentic Italian Gourmet four times, and it's always tasted different. The best sub I had there was made by the owner himself, and that was around 1pm in the afternoon on a weekday - so head in there around that time to ensure that you get a decent sub. They're always friendly and they're always busy. You need to be specific about what you want on the subs and not assume that everything you want on your sub.
  
  The bread and the meat are really what make it special. The bread is baked daily from a bakery I believe out in Killeen, TX and it's delivered there first thing in the morning - so it is always fresh. Secondly, the meat is all boars head which is probably why a 6 inch sub can cost upwards of $8. It's worth it.
  
  Furthermore, DO NOT GET A FOOTLONG SUB. They are huge, you never finish them, they're expensive, and on top of that, by the time you get to the second half, the bread is all mushy from the sauces that they used on the sandwich.
  
  Prepare for limited seating as well. I'm okay with a once a month thing. My husband is in love with it, but I'm not much of a sub/sandwich person which makes me especially picky. Try it out and see if you like it. It's worth the experience.
