Oyster Bay Steak And Seafood Restaurant And Bar Reviews
My family and I went down to Cape May (my first time in 23 years since living here in NJ!) on the weekend at the end of April a few months ago, and stayed at the hotel upstairs from where The Mad Batter is. I'm not sure why reviewers don't like the food there. I guess they went there at a bad or crazy time. I enjoyed the food. Breakfast was the best, and I liked dinner too. The waitress was really friendly. Prices were very affordable and cheap compared to diners in my hometown area. You can't go wrong with The Mad Batter restaurant. I guess the food is good when its not too busy. I'm definitely going back there again in the future.
The striking thing about the Mad Batter is that it doesn't even come close to what it aspires to be. Let me clarify: it aspires to be some sort of gourmet quaint restaurant, but in reality, it's has sub-standard food, diner waitresses, and a porch that's encased in plastic, making the atmosphere just terrible. The portions are abundant, but the food isn't that tasty, so you'll definitely have left overs. The waitresses are the type that would serve you in a diner ("Want ketchup with that, Hon?"), and the host/hostess barely cracks a smile. If you do dine there despite this review, don't dine on the porch. I mean, why even have dining on the porch if they're going to encase the entire area in plastic? (They could have at least used plants if they wanted to cut down on the breeze). I've tried Mad Batter twice and had the same experience; I won't be trying it a third time.
This has been my favorite place since 1980. Only complaint is that we received a gift certificate from friends which expired in a year. (We kept forgetting to bring it with us) Mark, the owner, refused to honor it. "Hey, Mark, after two decades of loyal patronage and multiple recommendations, even to strangers, we think your gift cerificate policy is unfair and poor. We felt like you stole our friends money!"
Excellent place. Friendly servers, brilliant busboys, gorgeous hostesses and great entertainment, especially the little hairy dwarf who seems to hang around the place.
The food at this restaurant was really good. I loved the Jamaican style pork -- unusual spices -- and the sweet potatoes were outstanding. Sitting on the porch is a nice way to spend a pleasant evening for two. Service was friendly and attentive.
The Twinings Tearoom is the perfect place to escape from the bustling tourists. The patio outside is perfect for afternoon tea. It gives the feeling of privacy and intimacy. Its tucked toward the back of the property on which it is located. The service is absolutely wonderful. The waitresses and waiters are very polite and always have a smile on their face. Not to mention the gorgeous young man with the long blonde hair who had no problem posing for a quick picture with a silly girl who had a silly crush. And of course how could the food be left unmentioned? Everything was just wonderful. The lemonade and chicken salad were, without a doubt, the best.
Pretty good food for the price. I usually go once a year prior to Memorial Day. Two big advantages - one of the few restaurants open on Sunday night at that time of the year, and they still provide you with a lunch menu (even after dark), so there is quite a variety available. Service can be uneven at times, but all in all, a fair value for the price.
In Cape May for New Year's Eve we were glad to find this restaurant open at 9 p.m. Food was good, service a little slow (server seemed distracted). Salads (ala carte) were too big to eat withan entree. Entrees also huge portion and delicious - we couldn't even finish them.
I thought the food at Jackson Mt. Cafe was great, the waitress was really nice and pleasant as well, would recommend it to anyone in Cape May.
10%.... no wonder she gave it back..... cheap! Average service calls for 15%. Less than average calls for a talk with the manager and 15%. Better than average calls for better than 15%. You shouldn't have been "chased", however I can understand the waitpersons feelings. 10% stinks! I've been there and I'd rate it as average bar food, clean and decent establishment. Friendly.
While recently visiting The Jackson Mountain Cafe, I was very appalled. Apparently the waitress (not a young teen) was displeased with the tip I left. She chased me out of the Restaurant and handed me back the money I had left her (10% of our bill) When reporting it to the manager I was told "You don't know anything lady! I run a Restaurant and would never let an employee treat a customer in this manner! I am currently trying to locate the owner as I am sure he/she would not like to see customers treated in this manner. I will never visit this establishment again.
