Food Bills on Sep 30, 2013
Basically, you needed a wheelbarrow to wheel us out of there, we were so full and the FOOD BILL, less than $80 tax and tip included!! Service was attentive and the overall experience keeps me coming back every chance I get!
Eating For Sanity on Aug 24, 2013
When it comes to seafood, Chicago has a variety of speciality restaurants that range in cuisine from Chinese to Mexican. El Barco has been one of the longer standing establishments located in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood...

Definitely one of my favorite places for Mexican seafood and Margaritas!
by ordbillw
Ceviche is delicious. So are the fajitas! Prices are reasonable - but expect to pay much more than $8 a person. With one drink, per person is more like $20 - $25 including tip. Visit made on Oct 21 2004.

My favorite Mexican Restaurant!!!Food is always fresh and great! Generous and reasonably priced. Try the Sangria too! Homemade and always fruitylicious!Parking lot available but small. Metered parking along street.Drawbacks... No reservations accepted which makes it hard to be seated and restaurant is small so tables are pretty close to each other. Also, I do not like the Mexican RAP music & videos. Wish they would just stick to regular Mexican music videos for atmosphere and get rid of the rap!
the food is terrible like the host and owner i ordered ceviche and it was spoiled,i notified the owner about the problem and he told me off, besides that he looks mad has a face off a bull dog ready to bite i dont know what they put in yhe food but it was a terrible.

Food-pretty good. Service- terrible. Which ruined the entire experience. Waited 10 minutes before waitress came by. Had to ask repeatedly for chips and salsa. Another member of our party did not get the dish that he ordered, and rather then promptly taking the dish back and replacing it, the waitress ARGUED with us. We had to get the manager to come to our table before the dish was replaced. By that time, everyone else's food was cold, and we never saw our original waitress again.
The food was terrible, dry and fishy tasting. The beans and rice were all dried out even. The waitress was really terrible. We felt completely sick after eating here. YUCK. The atmosphere was ok and would have seemed trendy and cool if the food had been good. YUCK.

I would skip this one. Just go across the street to "AlegrÃas" or even better to "La Costa." They also charge for each soft drink refill (Europe?) weird. Food is nothing to write home about.

Everything is very tasty here. Frankly, not many flaws here. Food is fresh and the fish is the star.

Two things: margaritas and red snapper
by Brittany Nicole
The waitresses are very friendly. However, I had the chicken enchiladas and they where not very tasty. My cousin had the carne asada dinner which she also thought the steak needed more seasoning.

Their octopus Ceviche is the best overall ceviche in the actual city, next to the one I make in my kitchen.
by Blake Q
Amazing large portions! Crab, small shrimp and mahi mahi amazing. Avoid the steak-- not tender and dry. margaritas are nicely priced but low on booze content. Great Mexican seafood gem in Chicago!

Authentic Mexican seafood!! The best day in Chicago...this tostada de camaron is awesome!
by Deeni
And while I'm on the subject, I've been to Veneno de Nayarit across the street three or four times and enjoyed that MUCH more. The entire Barco experience was unsatisfactory. :-(
by Joe W.
Really indifferent device here. Won't be back.
by Joe W.
I hate the service here but the margaritas are cheap and full of alcohol.
by Maria P.

My favorite ceviche in the city, make sure to add a margarita.
by Lei
Camarones a la diabla were full of flavor and just spicy enough! Corona's come in 40 ounce bottles. :)
by beanorita
Great food, but if you are light sensitive get a seat inside. The outdoor fence lighting is harsh on the eyes and ineffectual on the food.
by Joshua P.
Get a pitcher of margarita on the rocks. Every. Time. And try the snapper...sooooo good!
by Anoosh H.
The comment on crab legs is WRONG!!! They are the best! Retried beans are best I've ever had.
by DeAnna P.
Just had the best steak of my life. Get the parrillada for a large group of people. The steak is towards the bottom, mmm.
by Danielle A.
