Eating For Sanity on May 27, 2014
Their signature noodle soup is the Urbanbelly Ramen. Our two friends both ordered this soup and gave me the opportunity to give it a try. This one starts with a saltier pork broth and is filled with classic ramen noodles, braised pork belly, mushrooms, and a soft-boiled egg.

The pork & cilantro dumpling was perfection.
by Heather S.
Mini Ramen is perfect if you're not that hungry
by Keith L.
Phat rice, lemongrass chicken, and pad Thai are all delicious!
by Kyle M
Patio was enjoyable, but the ramen isn't particularly authentic or good. Spicy and broth-heavy it lacks all the finishing touches: fish cake, bamboo, etc. Pedestrian at best.
by Curtis H.
The pineapple fried rice is really good!
by Jesse R
The full ramen portion is huge!
by Carlos B.
Ramen and duck and pho dumplings

Amazing flavors. Order some Ramen to share - there are sharing dishes on the table.

Hey Urbanbelly, you should join Freebie! It’s pretty rad and the benefits are great for both you and me. Check it out! http://taps.io/freebie

"I like to think of this dish as an homage to pozole. It’s a cultural mash-up of rice noodles, kimchi, hominy, and pork belly in a brothy bowl. It’s exhilarating!" Chef Paul Fehribach
by Chefs Feed
Wasn't what I expected for Korean/American fusion. The ramen had a hoisin sauce taste, and a special was an udon noodle with a curry flavor

The cheeseburger is made with Wagyu beef and served on a seasme-crusted steamed bun and comes with the popular togarashi spice fries.

Wonderful ramen and dumplings. I had the self titled and the duck. Very accommodating staff.

Best ramen in the city. The right amount of spice combined with pork belly.

Cocktails, small plates, crazy Korean fusion BBQ. Awesome place

Pork and cilantro dumplings are good, but the noodle/ramen special was killer. Exceptional service.

You can always find Pan-Asian food interesting! Love the urban belly ramen the most! Mixed flavor of Korea, Japan and Thailand! Duck and pho dumplings are a bit oily tho!
by Aurora Cheng
Pretty much everything but I love the ramen and their take on Pad Thai.
by Adam Zadikoff
The restaurant is BYO on Sundays, which is a nod to the policy at the former location.
by Time Out Chicago
The lamb and brandy dumplings at Urban Belly are best eaten whole, in one single, enormous bite.

Save room for donuts.
by dj hammurabi
Loved it. Quality food, personable staff. They even have gluten free options!!
by Jessica E
Open kitchen means you can hear the staff saying Fuck that shit....and what a fuckin' asshole. Great lunch conversation! Poor management is usually to blame.
by Gerard M.
Pass on the mushroom pho. The broth tastes too much like hoisin sauce which is usually served on the side for dipping. Pea shoot fried rice though is a solid choice.
by Lani Love
Buffalo chicken dumplings are AMAZING!
by Bukie T.
Waygu dumplings are to die for...
by Romy S.
The belly ramen, the shrimp udon, mushroom pho, the dumplings, it's all delicious. Get dessert, the pb&j Fro Yo and the mini donuts, can't go wrong.

Awesome ramen with pork belly, and the specials are so good! BYOB - the Beer Temple up at Belmont and California is a good bet for tasty brews to go along with your pho or dumplings.
by Alexander S.
Employees are nice, the space is small, only 4 tables, but nice. My main problem with them is that they can't make any of their dishes without onions. Rice dishes were subpar.
by christie g.
Try the specials. Tonight's was rice noodle w corn, shrimp, pork sausage in a green curry broth. Outstanding
by Michael G.
Urban Belly Ramen: Bill Kim instead uses a phở-like base here, which brings in all kinds of other spices and aromas. This may not please the traditionalists, but works in every other capacity.

All noodle bowls are pork broth based. It can be substituted for a fish base if you request pescatarian

Kristina Caruso says: "Get the rice cakes - #15 on the menu. Also, the pork and rice and the lamb and burgundy dumpling."
by Marc E.
They do no substitutions
by Nick F.
A bit pricey for what I got. Urban ramen came w 4 strips of pork belly and a few shiitake mushrooms for $13. Noodles and soup aren't that expensive

by Shannon E.
get the urbanbelly ramen!

One of the best pork pho broths around
by Mark W.
Food is soulful and delicious. But the staff is rude and unfriendly. Not the best combination. If you don't like your job (lady with the short hair) maybe you shouldn't work in the food industry. .
by Elaine L.
Bring bib! The dumplings are good.
by Jane - Mumma T
Always want to try something new, but I can't stop getting the Katsu in curry with pineapple and rice noodles. Chewy rice orbs, spicy broth, sweetness from pineapple. So damn good. BYOB too!
by Lisa W.
Beware of delicious squirting dumplings!

Duck and pho-spiced dumplings are a must try.
by Dan M.
You can tell this place is "fusion" with their lack of proper soup spoons.

Don't leave without picking up a bottle or two of chef Bill Kim's fantastic new sauces, including soy-balsamic Seoul Sauce and the tangy, chile-packed Belly Fire.

#14: perfect for clogged sinuses!
by Betsy M.
The food is made up of cheap, Asian basics like dumplings and ramen noodles. But the dumplings are filled with lamb and brandy and the ramen tossed with braised pork belly and king oyster mushrooms.

One of the reasons Chicago loves Bill Kim. Creative Asian soul food in a communal setting. Pull up a wooden block and go hypnotic over the luscious dumplings, rice, and noodle dishes. - Inspector

Bill Kim turned noodles and dumplings on their head when he opened this downscale joint with incredibly flavorful food in a middle-of-nowhere strip mall. [Eater 38 Member]

This is what happens when a haute-cuisine chef (Bill Kim) switches gears & starts cooking for the masses: crisp, pan-fried dumplings stuffed with garlic-kissed ground lamb & brandy-soaked black beans
by GourmetLive
Wrinkle beans, dumplings with duck and pho spices, and rice noodles with kimchi and hominy in spicy pork broth is a great way to start your order at Chef Bill Kim's lively BYOB spot.
