• Ever since I came to the Northwest in the 70s, Ivar's has been known as THE place to go for seafood in Seattle. Coming from Bremerton, it is a full day's trip so we almost never got to go but would try when visitors from out of state wanted to ride the ferries. And when we did, the fish was always hot, fresh and goooood!We recently were in Federal Way and saw the Ivars and decided that we HAD to go in since it had been several years since out last treat. What a mistake!! We both ordered the 3 piece fish and chips and mine was in Cajun. The breading was tasteless and greasy. And when we bit into it, the oil poured out. While our fish was completely cooked, the table next to us had half of theirs raw. The french fries were also quite greasy. The only thing that was as I remembered was their tartar which, sadly to say, was packaged stuff. And the servers were trying to make good, but you could tell that they had little or no training. Either that or we had stumbled in on a training day because our cashier didn't know how to make a change to the order after it was entered into the cash register and the server didn't know how to tell the difference between the regular and the Cajun fish. Honestly, after I tasted it, you could hardly tell because there was so little spice.I am afraid that this place has put me off Ivar's all together.

• Childhood favorite. Fish and chips and coleslaw and clam chowder and jumbo shrimp. Now I also love their calamari.

• it's a northwest staple. avoid the salmon and stick with their classics: fried cod & chips, white clam chowder. despite the locale, their Federal Way location has the best service.
