The French Laundry Reviews
Often as not, eateries receive many reviews when they first open their doors. As the word gets out, in this case "excellent" reviews tend to waine. I noticed that the Laundry was in need of a few more recent inputs for those of you out their that still may have not stepped up to the plate if you will. For others, not from the Fenton area, this is an invitation to make the French Laundry a destination that will delight the traveler no matter what part of the country you hail from.My most recent visit was today, I thought it a perfect opportunity to casually read the paper and have a refreshening of one of the Laundry's many delights. My call of the day was and order of Norma and Floyd's. " A heaping bowl of house-made, corned beef hash topped with two eggs over easy, and a slice of rye toast". Yes this is house-made, hand chopped, real corned beef blended with sweet red peppers, onion and perfectly cubed potatoes. Served very hot off the grill topped with 2 delightful eggs begging to be soaked up with artisan rye toast cut thick and full crusted. Trie bon! To add to this experience I was surrounded with the sights and aromas of a wall adorned with fresh baked breads, offerings of cheeses from artisan farms as well as olive oils and vinegars. Hand printed with chalk are the specials and selective recommendations of home made pies (huge by the way), coffees from around the world and fresh baked delights," real scones", that will torture your mind in to returning for a fresh fix. This bistro is not simply a stop to satisfy ones daily need to eat, but rather a collection of fine confections. A library that will broaden ones culinary hunger. Enjoy the paper, its very casual and inviting. Be sure to ask lots of questions. Your education awaits.
What to say about the french laundry? Absolute bliss! The owner, Mark Hamel, is an absolute master of his domain and is quick to share his knowledge of food, wine and France. The new spring menu (2007) is perfect and so flavorful!! Chef Jody Brunori has outdone herself on this one. I only wish that I could taste all the new entrees. This destination is a corner of heaven in Old Fenton.
My boyfriend and I often come in for meals. The menu is varied and there is something for everyone. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is unique. We'll be back soon.
I only wish we lived closer, so we could be regulars. My husband and I go there on birthdays or our anniversary. Last night we attended one of their special event dinners, which was a beer dinner. Everything was fabulous, although my stomach ran out of room too early!Everything we have tried has been excellent, including beverages. Their bartender is a barmaster, and seems to know everything about what he is serving. The atmosphere is wonderful too. Can you tell I love this place?!
The French Laundry has GREAT food and excellent service!! They are very fast! Our whole family loves it there!!
My boyfriend and I love to eat breakfast and lunch at this charming cafe. We have our "usuals" that we always share while people-watching. This is a quaint, romantic place to have a delicious meal.
Amazing is all I can say. Our waitress was great, the menu is amazing and the food itself is outstanding! HIGHLY recommended. One note-the sandwiches are quite large, so if you have a small appetite, be prepared to take home a doggie-bag.
World-class breads and baked goods from Ann Arbor's celebrated Zingerman's Bakehouse, the best in the Upper Midwest. Terrific deli sandwiches in the Zingerman's tradition, but also huge fresh salads and a small menu of savory, rustic dinner entrees. Wonderful cheeses, good house coffee, good everything, offered up in a cozy, distinctive setting - part market, part deli, part mod little bistro. The beer selection, favoring Belgium and the French countryside, features some of the world's finest brews, including the incomparable Saison Dupont (as well as Foret, its organic counterpart), the glorious Trappist ales of Chimay, and the fine Belgian-style beers of Unibroue in Canada.
Absolutely beautiful. From the food to the atmosphere, this place is exceptional. The staff is remarkably attentive to customers. Including the owner, who knows most of the regular customers names and history. They even offer cooking, food, and wine classes after hours that people can sign-up for. The resturant also puts on many community events including a marathon and bike race that they started for charity. Local artists sometimes perform on special occasions also. It is a great place to enjoy a meal, and read the paper, or chat with friends over a cafe. The experience has gotten even better since the expansion of a larger dining room and bar. Have not been there for dinner, but the lunches are very good. Mostly deli sandwiches for lunch, that include the best breads, meats and cheeses. There is about 60 sandwiches to choose from. Besides sandwiches there are also a lot of baked goods, soups, and salads. Ususally every month there is a new special. During the summer the patio is great for sitting and having a drink. It is right along a main drag in old downtown Fenton, which is very charming. Sandwiches can be a little more expensive than normal, but well worth it since most can not be eaten in one sitting. Overall, an 11 out of 10. Just what the are needs!
You better be hungry when you go to the Laundry and it will take a while to work up those washboard abs afterwards. The Mac and Cheese is top fare. Casual dining experience compares to Zingerman's in Ann Arbor.

Be careful of the chairs outside by the bushes and if you happen to move the chair and fall into the bushes, your waiter might say "it happens " and walk right by.

In the summer of 2009, The French Laundry went to an all-Michigan taproom. Imports available in bottles, still, but drafts are all about MI.
