Joe's Crab Shack Reviews
When I went to the restaurant, I was not expecting to have a nice peaceful meal. I was looking to have fun and drink with my friends while eating. I think the food is great and the staff is awsome. Plus they have great beer prices.
I would just like to note that this is a completely new ownership as of early 2006 and all staff are new. Also, they've taken away the Mongolian Grill, but the food is much better and fresher, IMO.
Sushi Chalet is a great place for a quick lunch of sushi without having to spend too much money and time. The sushi was good and satisfying. If you want the “true” sushi experience then go to a full service sushi bar. This place is great for its convenience and variety. I will definitely eat at Chalet again. Too much rice... I don't understand that comment. It is sushi... right?
No, this is not the fanciest or best sushi restaurant that I've ever been to. However, you can have a good meal for a fair price here. Much better selection than most sushi buffets I've been to. As for the above criticism that there is "too much rice" - well, this is both untrue and absurd. The fish pieces are well-proportioned to the rice. Also, "sushi" happens to BE the rice so complaining that a sushi buffet has too much rice is like complaining that the beach has too much sand. Some people are just too picky (not to mention uninformed). This place is always worth a repeat visit. But hey, don't take my word for it, try Sushi Chalet for yourself
They should rename this a "rice buffet". What they serve has nothing to do with sushi. It is large balls of rice with tiny slivers of second rate fish on it.
We went to Joe's recently for my son's 12th birthday (his choice). I called ahead to see if they would do anything special for him and they said, "Oh, sure, just tell your waiter." Well, the special thing they did was hand him a dessert menu (no prices listed) at the end of the meal, and tell him to "Pick anything!" He picked a sundae. Weren't we surprised to find an $8.00 charge for the sundae on the bill! How generous! When we questioned the charge, they brought the manager over. Now it is really getting festive! He offered to "split the cost with us." Needless to say they have lost our business.
I can sum the food up in one word: "ugh." The sushi is not terribly fresh and there are lots of unsavory rolls laden with cream cheese (!) and uncooked asparagus (or whatever might be on sale at the Weis market nearby). Some of the hot items are better, but still not worth the trip. Sushi buffets often offer pale imitations of the fine sushi we can get in the DC area, but Sushi Chalet offers some of the worst. I didn't rate the service since this is a buffet.
I ate at a Joe's Crab Shack in Houston years ago and really enjoyed it, so I was excited when it opened in the Rio plaza. I couldn't have been more disappointed when I saw huge lines, and once I got in, it was really not worth it. It was one of the loudest restaurants I'd ever been in. The wait staff would periodically have to do a silly dance when certain songs were played, and they did not look like they were enjoying it one bit. The food itself was about the quality of Red Lobster (I would expect better in an east coast city that knows from fresh seafood!), as everything seemed to be served swimming in butter. I will never be returning to this place
Offers a "touch" of the true sushi experience by offering all you can eat sushi. The quality is good, however they go heavy on the rice (to fill you up). Lunch selection is not as complete as the dinner selection as they leave out the more pricey selections (unagi, ebi, etc.). They do also feature a mongolian grill where you can select a "meat" (chicken, shrimp, or beef) and have it stir fried with vegetables or other seasonings.
Awful service. Sub-par food. Ridiculous wait. Go somewhere else!

Wait is forever and you don't even get bread or something to munch on while you wait..and wait...and wait, for your food.

Fun place, but ran out of the free glasses...

Our server was terrible :( not one of the employees smiled, the food tasted like it had been cooked in cleaning supplies, & they said 15 mins to seat us but it took almost an hour. Eat at CPK instead

Good place to get seafood especially crabs. This is one of my favourite hang outs.
Eat, drink, and be merry! Enjoy several seasoning variations on your crab legs, then kick back and indulge in a Joe's favorite - the Shark Bite! (Worth the 45-minute drive from Baltimore!)
