  • BruinFan reviewLowest caliber sushi I've ever had. And I paid about a 30% higher bill than at any trendy westide sushi place. The tuna was so rank, no wonder they partially cooked it. So much for having sushi. There is no menu, no price list. I wrongly assumed it would be a fair price. If thisplace has really been around for so many years, something dreadful has recently happened.

  • cattrax reviewThis place is pricey. The salmon was fishy. The salmon rolls were COOKED. `That is the way we do them here`. said a waiter. The ginger was at least 24 hours old. All the sushi was dehydrated and puni & expensive. I can't believe I spent this much money and a Sat. night of my life on this hovel of a `sushi salon` that they call themselves. Arggggg.

  • cattrax reviewMore expensive than any trendy place in W. LA. The salmon was stale. The ginger was at least 24 hours old. The salmon handrolls were COOKED salmon. `That's the way we do them here`, explained our waiter. All the sushi pieces were dehydrated. The bill for 2 people was over $125. This was one Sat. night that I regret.

  • nicknomad reviewI have never eaten better food than what Shibucho serves up. Shibucho is located in a not-so-nice neighborhood and appears shabby from the outside, but inside the hardwood interior is elegantly decorated with art, French wines, and ceramic cat statues. At the bar-like counter, patrons can watch as the masterful chefs slice the fresh fish as if it were warm butter and carefully, precisely create amazing sushi, sashimi, and other dishes. The primary chef and owner of Shibucho not only possesses a thorough knowledge of sushi but also a refined taste in expensive red wine, which he personally buys at auction. Eating at the bar-like counter, he may even prepare a delicious and unique dish without you even asking for it like his truly magnificent albacore sashimi salad. Remember to leave room for dessert; Shibucho offers up the tastiest of after dinner treats every night. From ripe cherrys and strawberries dipped in rich cream to cool fruit-adorned slices of pie, the desserts almost live up to the dinners. Although Shibucho is not cheap (I have racked up many a $100-plus bill there), it is worth fifty times every penny. No trip to Los Angeles should be without a visit to Shibucho on Beverly Blvd.

  • ohlittlegirl reviewPros: Solid authentic sushi. Extensive European wine list, which is not found in any other Sushi restaurant. Great dessert, too. Cons: Very expensive. On-street parking.

  • gabeduran reviewThis place is for folks who love, not want, sushi. Expensive and worth it. Going with an open mind (and wallet) perhaps, for a special occasion, is a smart thing to do.

  • Nicole K.Opened 1976. Traditional, yet pricey sushi at one of L.A.’s earliest sushi bars, opened several years before the ’80s trend.

  • James J.Best sushi. Order omakase and prepare to be amazed. Specializes in nigiri and sashimi. Not the place for fancy roll crowd.
