  The Canteen is a true French restaurant, open late, with great service. Try the spinach balls, the Canteen house salad (for a delectable twist of a traditional French dinner salad) and the tomato-basil soup. Excellent wines, breads, and cheeses, and the staff cannot be beat.

  Stick with the French dishes. The Italian stuff isn't as good. But if you follow my advice on the French stuff, you'll have an experience you otherwise have to go to France for. Good prices. Large portions. Informal. I think it's one of LA's best kept secrets.
