Now we all know that when it comes to barbecue, I'm a little ambivalent, but I know what tastes good and what doesn't. Prior to very recently, I had only been to Rendezvous once, and let's just say...

Rendezvous Charles Vergos Reviews
I have been coming to Charlie Vergos Rendezvous in downtown Memphis since 1973 when I was 18 years old, and was a freshman at Memphis State (now Memphis Univ.). Great food; great tradition. A national treasure for BBQ foodies.
If you go to Memphis then you have to go to the Rendzvous.
While the food is on par with most BBQ in Memphis, in my opinion, their biggest competitor in town is better. The air smells of bbq smoke inside. The cole slaw they serve is yellow and tasteless. The service was excellent, though.
Hands down the best dry ribs in Memphis! The Rendezvous is Memphis. It is the perfect place to take out of towners, and it is sure to provide an unforgettable experience!
Better than Corky's by far. Have their world famous dry ribs, the best you'll ever taste! The great Memphis atmosphere is the greatest, everyone should come.
My husband and I have been there many times. Every time we are in Memphis we stay at the Holiday Inn Express on Union so we can just walk down the alley to get the best food in town.
Great atmosphere and the food and service are superb! I never go to Memphis without stopping there.
Far from Memphis' best! There are smaller places in the city that smash Rendezvous. The meat is absolutely boring without saucing it and the sauce is well, to cinnamony. The waiter was top notch!

Ask for Calvin! He's the Bomb!

I really like their beans...slaw has a bit of a kick and vinegary which I like too.
by Lisa A.
If you want to feel like the pig taken to the slaughterhouse, eat here! Don't forget to order the Ghost River that tastes like the milk from butchered cow in your brisket.
by Alex H.
Choosing a favorite Memphis barbecue spot is like choosing a favorite child, but we give this basement joint top billing for its vinegar-soaked, spice-crusted ribs.

by Jeff E.

Lamb, beef or pork, it's all good!
by Chris J.
I stand corrected. I DO like BBQ. But only from here.
by Tracey L.
Ribs are terrible!!!!! This place lives off reputation alone. Don't waste your time or money. And this place takes a lot of both!!!!
by Steve Z.
Apparently only ribs before 4:30? Who cares? I'm only here for that heavenly meat-on-bone anyways.
by Jennifer W.
Congratulations! You found it. Now sit back and enjoy the best dry rub ribs in Memphis. Try the beans too.

Showed up with a big group (20+people) got sat in no time right before closing, had great service, but the ribs by that point were a little dry :( the rub itself was delicious

Beef brisket was terrific. Beer options could've been improved - didn't love the Ghost River.
by Roger S.
Ribs without a doubt worth the wait!...cole slaw extremely spicy...beer so cold it has ice on top....this is what I was looking for!
by George G.
Don't fret - you can ship their famous dry rub ribs and BBQ sauce home via Fed Ex once you've left Memphis!

My favorite place for ribs in the entire country. Hands down the best BBQ.
by Josh B.
They open at 4:30, but will gladly serve you ribs, slaw and beans all day long. Don't miss it!
by Jim C.
Best ribs you'll ever eat. Who cares about the service, the atmosphere, the practically hidden entrance? It's all worth it. Un-be-lievably good.
by Adam B.
Their famous dry rub ribs is definitely worth the hype. Generously good.
by Justin M.
Stick with the Ribs and pass on all other meats. The rub is intense and delicious. The wait may be long, but you can wait at the upstairs bar.
by Lizzy B.
Mark Cohn consistently gets mistaken for Bruce Springsteen here.

by Angela S.
The best dry ribs ANYWHERE!! Anything off this menu is stellar!! Great atmosphere!! Service is amazing! Well worth the trip down the stairs to grab some amazing barbecue!!
by Alison P.
I know people who have said these are the best ribs they've ever had. I disagree and thought it was overrated. (I LOVE dry-rub ribs). Go to Corky's in Collierville or Memphis, et al.
by Bryan H.
Skip the ribs - get the sandwich or nachos 1/2 pork 1/2 chicken!
by Cynthia M.
If you like dog meat flavored with bad seasoning then this is your place. Never been so disappointed in a highly recommended and hyped up restaurant

by Laura C.
Have the dry rub!
by Britt R.
The dry rubbed ribs are pretty damn delicious. Go well with the fresh Greek salad. I also enjoyed a plate of hot peppers on the side.
by Greg B.
Dry rub ribs are delicious. Split a full rack with a friend & get a Greek salad too. Tasty & light (yes, BBQ can be light!).

by Miguel T.
BBQ pork nachos Excellent!
by Miguel T.
No at full bar !!!! Whaaat! Beer and wine only!
by Miguel T.
I don't get the point of the hostess: there are two of them on a raise podium they ask you how many? And they point at the table you must go and sit!?
by Miguel T.
the worst goddam nasty tourist trappy , over-hyped, over recommended, Memphis TN piece of garbage imaginable !! PASS on this "legend" really, trust me
TRY THE LAMB RIBLETS! We were told by locals it was better than the pork and we ordered both, LAMB ALL THE WAY!!!
by Sophia P.
The brisket is AMAZING! Best I have ever had!

Kansas City has the best by far!!!
by Marsha B.
Best ribs in Memphis hands down, point blank period! Dry or wet their the best! If your in Memphis at least try them once.
It's all about the ribs.
by Chad F.
A world class BBQ joint closed on Mondays? Come to Kansas City! Where you can get better BBQ 7 days a week!
by Julian A.
Not the best Ribs in town. I prefer central BBQ for some really good food. The ribs here at rendezvous gets a 4 out of 10 from me. Not my favorite, and not something I'll come back and eat.
by 🌴Colby P.
best place for ribs in Memphis!!! deff a most go for anyone!!
by Kylee Jo M.
Ribs only until dinner. But who would want anyhing else?
by Diana W.
Keep the napkins coming...
by Bruce J.
Head downstairs and eat at the bar to avoid the wait...and get a pitcher of Ghost River.
by Chris M.
Honestly, runs are average at best. War too much dry rub, not even close to falling off the bone, and meat easily gets stuck in your teeth. Brisket is pretty good but this place is just hype.
by Matt W.
Great southern classics from door to door. The BBQ ribs, grilled over charcoal, arrive at your door with Vergos's special seasoning.
by Town and Country M.
If you love Memphis bar b que then you've come to the right place!
by Y'all Lifestyle
Made our South's Best List! If you're feeling adventurous, with 24-hours notice, you can enjoy an iron skillet filled with 5-pounds of barbecue shrimp.
by Southern Living
The tea is awesome....
by James S.
For the best flavor on your ribs, order them with dry rub and sauce on the side. The extra flavor from the seasoning makes it that much better!!!
by Paige W.
Best BBQ in Memphis! My favorite meats are the ribs and pulled pork! - Kate, Assistant Community Manager
Lives up to hype. Dean is probably the best waiter I've ever had. Ask for him and thank me later.
by John H.
Overrated. Ask the locals where to go. I've tasted better dry rub ribs in Chicago.
by Jason K.
