Nice restaurant and atmosphere. The food is delicious. Very good lunch time menu with good deals. Music doesn't really match the atmosphere.

The food was unbelievably delicious the first time I went. Several vegetarian dishes which you could get all of made it a fabulous experience. The injera bread is wonderful. The same food was also delicious the second time. The fourth or fifth time, it was getting a bit blasé. It's been about ten years and only a couple of items have been added to the menu. The service is slow or slower, so I really don't have any reason to return since it is a bit pricey and there's no point of going for the exact same food again.Fabulous atmosphere. I recommend eating at the traditional tables, unless you have a bad back. Beautiful woodwork and bar. Live music Friday, saturday (big cover charge). Special lunch prices, but same food.

After having lived in Ethiopia for two years, believe me, I know what Ethiopian food is, what spices should be used, etc. You will easily spend 40 dollars, without alcohol. While the food is "good" - and it is, the lega tibs and durro wat are tasty - none of the appetizers (except teematim fit fit) is actually Ethiopian. It is Nigerian, because the owner is Nigerian. Some of the wonderful accompaniments one hopes to find (like Ethiopian farmer's cheese or the lovely lamb soup) is nowhere to be found. There is no Ethiopian beer or wine, and the musicians that perform play jazz or reggae, not traditional Ethiopian music. It is so rare to go to a restuarant that offers you an "experience" and here, the experience is a confusing one. The decor is lovely and nearly spartan. I suppose for those who like "Eclectic" it might be for you, but I like my Ethiopian food to be authentic.

Doro Wat, Gomen Wat, Alicha, Injera! What's not to like? I would like to hear more modern Ethiopian music pieces. There is an Ethiopian saxaphone player I heard in Oakland, Calif. who was great. Eating Ethiopian food and listening to him play was heavenly to say the least.

I have worked in New Brunswick for 9 years and Makeda is my favorite restaurant in town. The atmosphere is interesting, the food is delicious and the service is always good. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large. I have taken many people to Makeda for both lunch and dinner and have never heard a complaint.

I found the service, atmosphere and food were all very good. However it seemed more like I was eating soulfood without utensils more then I was eating Ethiopian food. The drinks were also a bit pricey.

The atmosphere and food are exceptional. If you've never tried Ethiopian food this is the restaurant to try it at.

This place is 1.75x pricer then other Ethiopian restaurants in the metro NY city area. I hope it's great.

Get there early to find parking.

Somewhat overpriced...for the price we were paying we thought we'd have a more knowledgeable waitress...and thought the food might have a little more flavor

Worst ever. Cold food, over priced, inattentive service. "Pre-tip amount" on bill included a disguised 18% tip marked "DEPT #010". Deceitful!I made them redo the bill and gave a tip of ZERO.
