Adolfo's Reviews
If your taste buds are craving superb Italian food, I cannot recommend Adolfo's at 611 Frenchmen. The prices weren't too bad for NOLA (cash only), but the food was bland and the sauces were watery.
I suppose I could be generous and suggest the place had character. In a less generous moment I could suggest the place resembled a dump.My husband and I dined on a Saturday night at Adolfo's. The food was okay, however when we asked for the wine list we were told they had merlot, chianti, and white. So, we ordered a bottle of chianti. We drank it even though it was not very good especially since our waiter ignored us most of the night and we didn't get to tell him gow bad the wine was. Regardless, we paid $27 for the wine. Not a bad deal until I went to the local grocery the next day and saw the exact same bottle for $5.99. Now, I worked in the restaurant industry for years and never have I seen a wine marked up over 4 times the cost. I called to complain the next day and basically they blamed it on the wine rep.

About two years ago my wife and I were down for a long weekend in late summer, when we learned of a pub-crawl along Frenchman Street. We had not been to any of the establishments on Frenchman so we decided to venture out. We happened to pick Adolfo's as a place to eat based on some of the comments we overheard and in response to our inquires of those wandering along on the pub-crawl. As we wound our way up the dim stairs to the second floor the air was filled with the most wonderful fragrances hinting of the delicious dishes to come. While a little low on ambiance, the food is terrific and when you consider the building housing the restaurant has been there who knows how long – maybe the setting is just right. Each time we find the dinning experience just as enjoyable if not more so than the last. Now Adolfo's is on our permanent list of restaurants we try to rotate visiting during our frequent trips to our second home in the Quarter. The pork tenderloin is probably my favorite dish, but the rack of lamb and the veal were not far behind as are all the seafood dishes. My wife loves the Cannelloni eggplant dish and the pannée Chicken. We highly recommend it.

I have looked over some of the other reviews and I can honestly agree with every word that they write. Adolfo makes the most wonderful food. It doesn't even seem like you are eating out. His family make you feel like they are serving you right at home. If you haven't eaten here you definately should because you would be missing the best part of New Oreans.

The man hand picks his ingredients and coaxes them into perfection. Every plate of food I have eaten at Adolfo's has been a culinary treat. Manuel served us like we were family. The local art hangs on the walls and you can hear and smell your food cooking. This is a real chef's place. Do yourself a favor. Go to Adolfo's. I'll be there next week.Chef Roberto Franceschini

Everytime time I visit my daughter, Deanna and her husband Kenny Holladay and little Millie, I insist on taking them out to Adolfo's. There is nothing I do not like on the menu and it's always a treat. I only wish I could visit more than twice a year.

My husband and I gladly make the hour and a half drive from our home in south Mississippi to Adolfo's about once every three months! We first visited Adolfo's two years ago on a tip from a local who seemed to think that this tiny restaurant was one of New Orleans' best kept secrets. Every meal that we have had a Adolfo's has been absolutely perfect. Chef Adolfo Perez takes his business very seriously, and genuinely desires to please his patrons. The service has definitely improved over the past two years, as Adolfo has recruited some of his family to help him run the restaurant. One thing is certain, if you don't leave Adolfo's craving to come back for more, then you need to have your taste buds examined!

Chef gato nailed the rack of lamb! Simply the best we have ever had... the rosemary/basil sauce was to die for!

Rack of lamb with rosemary mint sauce knocked my socks off

This place is kind of divey, but it was pretty good.

Tiny, romantic restaurant perched above a Frenchman St bar. Food is outstanding: you must order the crab and corn cannelloni and an entree with ocean sauce. Cash only

Two words - Ocean sauce
by Alison L.
The ocean sauce is a must. Have a drink downstairs while you wait!
by Michelle A.
Came Friday night at 7, waited down stairs listening to music and having a few drinks for almost 2 hrs... And it was worth it!!! Escargot, mussels, veal park were all excellent ... Will be returning!
by Anthony z
Lord help me Jesus. The absolute best lamb special I have EVER TASTED. Do NOT let your life go by without having it.
by Della M.
The wait is usually longer than they suggest, but the food is so good it's worth the wait. Don't bother with an appetiser, you won't need it
by Paul B.
Get the pasta side over the salad! You'll need it after that long wait for a table!
by James A.
Good food. Pork chops unreal. Italian mostly however. Small with limited seating. Cash only. Right next to Spotted Cat.
by Howard F.
Nice italian restaurant in Frenchmen Street. It can get crowded so waiting time is normal. It's a cash only place. The mussels were ok, but nothing extraordinary. Ocean sauce is amazing!!
by Carla C
Worst service I've ever encountered. Waited two hours only to be turned away? Amateur move by an amateur owner - way to treat your clients. These guys are chumps.
by Patrick L
Waited two hours after being told it would be a one hour wait. When we finally thought our reservation was ready, we were told the chef/owner no longer wanted to cook. Definitely heading elsewhere.
by AJ w
This place sucks. They'll leave you on a waiting list, saying the wait is an hour, and 2 hours later tell you they won't seat you. The Manager acted like a rookie, and treated customers like crap.
by Mark J
Tasteless lamb, and the canelloni that my partner got had so much black pepper that they tasted of nothing else. Rip-off, avoid.
by Laura A
Just get anything with the Ocean sauce
by Paul B.
Rack of lamb is put of this world
by Erik G.
Well worth the wait! Anything with crab was delicious - eggplant with crabmeat and capers, cannelloni with crabmeat and corn, fish with ocean sauce. One of the best meals in NOla!
by Maryann W.
Adolfo's Drive Thru- Hurry up & wait, hurry up & order, hurry up & eat, hurry up & leave. That is their credo. Pushy, rude, brash waitstaff...No wonder it's 90% TOURISTS & 10% LOCALS.

Adorable, great date spot. Veal or grouper with the Ocean sauce and the mussels special in white wine and garlic are amazing. Cash only!
by Alyson W.
The mussels are amazing!
by Erica M.
Over rated as hell. Bread was spicy and I had the shrimp Alfredo which I've had much better at many other places. Kind of a dirty spot as well.
by Dubb W.
AMAZING food and friendly staff. Best meal on Frenchman
by Molly K.
Really good. Show up early. House wine is cheaper than bottles.
by Vikram S.
Service was great, food is plentiful and delicious, and the atmosphere is perfect. The best meal I've ever had in an attic!
by Annene
Veal Ocean with spaghetti or anything with their Ocean Sauce. Get the cannelloni filled with crabmeat and corn for an appetizer or the mussels.
by Elisabeth L.
The Peppercorn + Rum sauce is fantastic. Get it on the Steak Manney, rare. Also, don't purchase any of the artwork as it mostly consists of Fleur De Lis' fighting alligators to jazz.
by Andrew P.
Crab and corn canalloni !!! Amazing
by Ali S.
The spinach and cheese cannelloni is delicious much better than the crab and corn.
by Yesbelt F.
Delicious food and a great atmosphere! Remember to bring cash, and try the Ocean Sauce on Grouper.
by Lindsay C.
Best Creole sea food. Yummmmmmyyy.
by Alida R.
Wow!! Worth the wait!
by Joe O.
Crab And corn cannelloni absolutely ridiculously fantastic

by Michael H.
Make a reservation-our wait w/o was 2 hrs. Lamb was great however pasta and fish dish way to spicy-good Italian food is not spicy
by Jeanette L.
Agreed. Awesome food due to heavy butter. Service is subpar.
by Hols J.
The absolute worst service I have ever had. The food was great though- but super rich. Share a meal and a app.
by Brooke P.
Make sure to go here, but there will be a wait-
by Ryan B.
Terrible. Stay away. Everything is smothered in "Ocean Sauce." can't see why this place gets such favorable reviews.
by Jason B.
If there's a line, it's worth the wait. Eggplant & crabmeat for an appetizer!
by Britt L.
Best authentic northern Italian restuarant in NOLA.
by Jerry L.
Go early! OPens at 5:30pm and there are no reservations!
by Tracy M.
I can't describe how good the food is, best food in the city. Veal was orgasmic
by Andres M.
Seafood & sauces in a dark and tiny dining room above a dive bar on Frenchmen. Doesn’t take reservations & is cash only. Service sometimes sucks. But this place is still awesome. [Eater 38 Member]

Sauce so good Mary would have sex with it...
by Michael C.
Absolutely amazing!! Service is so bad you will almost leave, but the food is so good it is criminal. Put you name on the list and head down the street for some good music then prepare yourself..
by Michael C.
It's cash only, but you don't have to read it here, they will tell you that at least 5 ... well, actually 10 times.
by Igor M
Cannolini !
by Shy V.
Must get the ocean sauce!!! Eggplant parm is also delicious.
by Curtis M.
Veal with Ocean Sauce. Amazing.
by Jeff G.
Save room for your entree and order a salad for your side instead of pasta.
by Sally M.
Choose the pasta as your side - you won't be disappointed!
