New Orleans is a food city, and plenty of "celebrity chefs" have at least one restaurant in the Crescent City. I wanted to experience some of the best food in the city, so we patronized some of the big-name places...

  • highhouse reviewFood Atmosphere Service Value 5 4 4 5 Wish I could eat here all the time! Living in the Bay Area, we have our pick of great restaurants. Bayona is at least as good as the best restaurants here, plus it was a really good value! For the same meal at home I would fully expect to pay $80 or more, but it was only $56 each for 3 courses, a drink and 20% tip. It was Friday during Lent and I was worried what I would end up with since I couldn't eat meat. Little did I know that the crouton with goat cheese and wild mushroom ragout appetizer would be to die for! And even though I had no idea what triple tail was, it tied with the French Laundry for the best fish dish I've ever had. We were in New Orleans for two more days and told EVERYONE we met that they should go to this restaurant - even the people sitting on either side of us in Mr. B's the next night. The only problem is that after eating there on Friday, nothing else could come up to that experience. Susan Spicer was there that night and we raved to her - it's nice to see the chef actually coming out to speak to the guests.

  • eqqhrvd reviewIncredible dining. We are frequent visitors to New Orleans and this has quickly become our very favorite restaurant. In a city like New Orleans, that is quite an accomplishment.

  • thecosy reviewRecently, I was in NO for a meeting, and had scheduled one dinner at Bayona. Great to eat outside when everyone to the North was freezing. Good food, great service, great wines. But, the best of Bayona is to go there for lunch and have the smoked duck sandwich - best sandwich I have ever had in my life, bar none. Usually, no problem with lunch space - haven't figured out why they were not more crowded but I was there on a Tuesday. Highly recommend for lunch and dinner.

  • 1chick reviewIf you are in New Orleans, you must try Bayona!!

  • jwutrie reviewDownhill slide for Bayona. Loud close room, wait staff awful (inappropriate dress, not attentive, nothing featured on the menu), none of the features one expects in a distingished eating establishment. Been better treated at Ed Debevic's. Food was without imagination and presentation dull. In a city full of destination restaurants there is no need to return.

  • mccram reviewI was lucky enough to dine at Bayona several times during the period between April and September 1998. Each time was a great experience. This restaurant offers an exceptionally unusual and tasty change-of-pace for the traveler to New Orleans. It's not Cajun nor French nor ?, but it is outstanding eating. The service was very good, and I was particularly impressed by the knowledge and helpfullness of the lady who is the wine sommelier there. If you go, you must try the tuna, and of course the encrusted rabbit.... heaven!

  • roncarlson1 reviewIn a city that is famous for food, Susan Spicer's Bayona ranks at or very near the top of the list. An excellent experience that I have recommended over and over to friends. Susan also has another newer place (can't remember the name) located in the Warehouse district. The new place is like a grocery store, only better.

  • slack13 reviewThe best ever, Susan Spicer is a genius with original and subtle seasoning. We have eaten here many time for lunch or dinner. If anybody can beat her, we don;t want to know about it.

  • ExpenseAccount reviewThese are the highest scores my personal rating system will allow. It took us two years to get back here on vacation, and I called 6 weeks in advance so that we would not be shut out. THIS IS A SPECIAL PLACE.
