  • ChefMozJust returned from our first and last visit to KIKU. Where to start?FIRST: Our waitress was overwhelmed by having three separate groups on a single table. She could not keep the orders straight or remember who belonged to what group... it took nearly 20 minutes to place the table order.SECOND: Each drink order took 20 minutes, minimum, to arrive.THIRD: I ordered a specialty drink - which was absolutely awful. Upon first sip, I mentioned to the server that it was not to my liking and he refused to take it back. Understandable, but the attitude we received was inexcusable.FOURTH: The hibachi 'show' was lame. No shrimp tail flipping, had to request the 'egg roll' for first timers at our table, etc.FIFTH AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: When we received our check, we deducted the awful drink mentioned above from the total before figuring 15% gratuity. The 'gentleman' (and I use that phrase loosely) that collected our bills reviewed each and every one to make sure the tip was satisfactory to him AT THE TABLE, and approached my fiancee regarding his $12 tip on the $100 check. When my fiancee explained that we deducted the drink, the server used explicit language and stormed off (with our check). At this point I approached management to retrieve our check before it was processed and remove all gratuity in light of the absolutely unforgivably inappropriate reaction from the server - who continued to yell at me in the lobby. We feel bad that our drink runner and chef were not compensated for their work as a result of this unruly employee. Though sub-par compared to other establishments, the two worked with good intentions. Customer service is nonexistent in this restaurant and not worth the money or effort.

  • ChefMozI have frequented the old Kiku on Route 4 for well over 15 years. I was thrilled when I found out that they were expanding. However, hugely disappointed each time I visited the new spot on Route 17. The service is nothing less than terrible. I always feel that I am being rushed. Not long before my soup arrives - they are bringing my salad. I like the food, but the service is not up to par. Get together Kiku.

  • ChefMozThe bait and switch is all too obvious at this restaurant, once known solely for its tasty (pricey) Japanese cuisine. Of course, the hibachi and food are satisfactory, however, be prepared for a stomach ache when the bill comes loaded with charges for things never ordered (oh yes and fried rice is $3 more than white without your consent). As you leave in disgust after pointing out the blatant lies on the menu, you may be asked to re-enter for some free desert (which was nowhere to be seen, but was somehow included...) Sadly, there are too many better Japanese choices nearby that one can eat at a different place every week for a year and never go back to Kiku- oh, and not get screwed...

  • ChefMozUnfortunately the good food is overshadowed by the awful service. Even if you make a reservation, on a Saturday night you can wait an hour and a half. What's the point of the reservation? The hostess isn't helpful and will just stand there while there's a line of customers waiting to check in or ask a question. When they're busy, it can take forever for someone to take your drink order, let alone actually bring it. The restaurant itself is nice. The chefs are very nice and do a great job. The food is good but most people would never want to wait to find out.

  • ChefMozI am so glad we ignored the anonymous reviewer who thought "Kiku is the worst" -- it is exactly the opposite!!! I requested going to Kiku for my birthday dinner and my whole family (including a 13 and 11 year old) had a wonderful time. The food was excellent, the service friendly and our chef was funny and entertaining. The dinner prices are a bit expensive, but the quality (and quantity!) of food is worth it! It's a great place for a special family dinner -- we even had enough for lunch the next day!! Enjoy!

  • ChefMozThe Kiku that was on Rt. 4 was the best. The service, food, and ambience. The Kiku on Rt. 17 (which moved from the Rt. 4 location) seems like a fast food place. The reception area was crowded with people getting angry because it took them a while to seat people, even though they had a reservation. The service was horrible; it took them 30 minutes to bring us a drink. It also took 1 hour for the Hibachi! The old Kiku did not charge for a birthday Bonzi. This one, they want you to buy their birthday cake and then they would sing you the Bonzi. Overall, I had been a Kiku patron for 10 years. The new Kiku is very bad. I think the customers will catch on. Seems like a fast food Japanese resturant. The staff are the most rude people (especially the managers). I am no longer a Kiku patron! Kiku definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

  • ChefMozIt's not my favorite because it's so different from all the other restaurants that I have ever been to, but because the ambiance is so welcoming and fun. It's a great place to eat a casual weekday dinner or to celebrate a birthday. Great service and the cooks are amazing! It's very funny and entertaining for the whole family. Have fun and go hungry!

  • ChefMozThe food, the fun, the ambiance. This place is great. It's a classic Hibachi-style restaurant, complete with onion volcanoes and shrimp tails flipped up into the hats. It's a bit pricy, though, so bring some friends to split the bill.

  • Geraldine A.The Hibachi chef on Thursday did not seem to know what he was doing. No jokes Ann's left the table kind of messy at the end of it all. The waitress also didn't know the food selection very well.
