Very unorganized ordering system. First stop is cheese steaks, second stop is roast pork. Both are phenom. Lots of people hanging around not waiting in line. Pork is immediate, steaks can take 20mins+

best roast pork sandwich
by Sree I
The Cheese steak was awesome. Sadly, they don’t have whiz, which is the only thing missing
by Dramane B.
They have great streak and pork sandwiches. I actually like the pork sandwich better. Either way you can't go wrong... And be sure to stand in the right line.
by Paul L
Roast pork sharp provolone and spinach with a long hot is a little piece of heaven on earth
by Matthew A
Roast pork was good but Dinics still my favorite
by David A.
The roast pork sandwich was good, no doubt... but their Philly cheesesteak with sharp provolone is fantastic. Granted it was my first cheesesteak ever, but still. Don't forget to add banana peppers.
by Emily S
You come here for the namesake Roast Pork and you leave satisfied.
by Behrad B.
While they serve a solid roast pork, their cheesesteak is one of the best in Philly!
by Behrad B.
Although the roast pork is what this place is known for, get the philly cheesesteak with sharp provolone and onions instead. You won't regret it.

The large roll is better than the small roll

Roast pork with provolone, spinach, and banana peppers
by Dina Rughani
The best OG cheesesteak in Philly - it might be a small restaurant, but it has big cheesesteaks (and big lines)
by Michael D
The much-adored Philly Cheesesteak is the second-best item on the menu after the restaurant’s namesake: the Roast Pork, which is seasoned and grilled with cheese and onions.
by PureWow
Old school Philly Cheese Steak place. Good stuff but I don't like old school Philly cheese steak joints it seems
by Leandro L.
Don't be fooled by the nomenclature, the cheesesteak is the move here. Pay attention to the ordering signs, you will get yelled at.
by Elyse E.
A very underrated Philly cheesesteak and an outstanding roast pork
by Lance L.
Forgo the cheesesteak and come for the namesake. There's a lot of better cheesesteaks in Philly.
by Ryan C
Best roast pork and spinach...hands down ....need to experience it
by Mario T.
Cheese steaks are superb!
by Eric L.
Bring a friend so you can split a large roast pork and a cheesesteak for dessert.
by Jason S.
Post-thanksgivings treat. Was a mighty fine cheese steak. Drove down from Queens because, why the hell not?
by Arzi R.
Cheesesteaks
by Loren W.
Prepare to wait in line (separate lines for roast pork & cheesesteak!!) Sandwiches are huge & easily shareable esp if you're not starving. Don't be intimidated by the "way to order" your cheesesteak.

Everything!!!!!
by Joseph W.
I'm not sure it lived up to the expectation. Definitely get it (cheese steak) w sharp cheese. Good for ppl w fat aversion as it was not greasy at all (disappointed). Fries undercooked. Overpriced.
by Cristina G.
Best roast pork you can get!
by Steve
Everything!
by Jordan Landau
Italian Roast Pork sandwich with sharp provolone and spinach. Your really can't go wrong with any sandwich here. I've been coming here since this place was the only thing in the area. Great spot !!
by Frank
Now open til 7pm. All around a great place. I'd give the roast pork edge to DeNics only slightly, but still my favorite cheesesteak in Philly. Cash only!
by Neal
From the grill or the stove, John's is a great stop for some great cheesesteaks and pork grinders.
by Terry K.
Try the roast beef. Its as incredible as the pork!
by Christerfer S.
Get the Roast Pork & the Cheesesteak.....it's better to get both than pick one.
by Ricky S.
Roast pork hoagie!
by Tony F.
Even better than hype suggests it is. Roast pork with spinach and sharp provolone. Cheesesteak is solid (sesame seed bun). Cash only
by Alex Tomasik
Came here in search of a better cheesesteak, did not disappoint. The roast port is pretty different than a steak, but pretty tasty. The sharp prov is a nice touch, as are the long hots.
by Joshua Haftel

Hands down the best Philly Steak and cheese sandwich I have ever had.
by Zach D
Great cheesesteak, but obviously it's the juicy roast pork sandwich with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe that will make you want to venture into deep South Philly.
by Brendan R.
John's has long been a favorite of dock workers and contractors, but only recently has it gained mainstream recognition as one of the best purveyors of cheesesteaks in the City of Philadelphia.
by Philly.com
If you're not trying to check off "Philly cheesesteak" from your list, get the roast pork with sharp provolone. It is amazing and totally worth passing on a cheesesteak ;)
by Megan E
It was iight.
by Harackas D.

The roast pork is great the only thing that it doesn't travel well, eat it as soon that you get it.
by Romny V.
Did some research while traveling around Philly and was not disappointed. The roast pork Italiano is the closest thing to perfection I've ever had. Simple and unexpected. The best food in Philly.
by John V.
Best roast pork I've had in Philly.

You can sit outside and have a chat with John's mother... And the pork, sharp, with greens is delectable.
by Lance B.
Don't do that wit/witout nonsense they make you do at lesser, Xenophobic cheesesteak shops
by Colin W.
By far the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia. Also, the sharp provolone and roast pork...AMAZING
by Scott L.

Sure, they have great pork sandwiches. But don't let the name fool you, this place has an awesome cheesesteak as well.
by Matthew V.
Cheesesteak, sharp provolone, and onions. Best in Philadelphia. Rolls are amazing and the steak is delicious.
by Joe P.
I was called 'baby' when handed my sandwich. And I liked it.

Taking a walk on the wild side? Grab a pizza, bacon, mushroom, or bruschetta steak!
by PhillySteakOut.com
Been here twice. Once to have a cheesesteak and once to have a roast pork sandwich. Without the addition of the spinach, the roast pork would be average, and the cheesesteaks are not good. Meh.
by Andy G.
John’s is best visited on a day that you are really hungry. Monday-Friday daytime only hours. –SM http://bit.ly/OFCqno
