  • anais43 reviewI ate at the Delta Cafe while visiting friends in Portland and I throughly enjoyed my meal, the portions were decent sized, were made fresh, atmosphere was electic and the price was excellent.

  • ChefMozGimme a 32-ounce bottle of Pabst and a plate of jambalaya and I'm in Cajun heaven! The Delta Cafe is a wonderful collision of Portland counterculture and Louisiana's finest food. I love this place and make a point of dining there everytime I ride my motorcycle from Indiana to visit my son in Portland.

  • ChefMozA lot of places in this town have great ambiance, interesting people, cheap food, and vegetarian options. Not a lot of places in this town have anything more than some version of burgers and sandwiches, often running together in a sea of blandness. Delta Cafe costs a bit more than some places (the best bet for a budget meal, the "Po' Boy Sammich" goes for $8, more than this po' boy usually spends on his supper), but for once, you get what you pay for. I had the catfish Po' Boy, and a side of collard greens (included in the $8). The fish was perfectly battered, and there was plenty of it, layed out simply on a long roll with a single perfect leaf of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo. The collards were not bitter or over cooked as they sometimes are, and were cooked with a delicious pork sausage (vegetarian versions of all the sides are also available). I left much more full and satisfied than I have at many other restaurants, and only a couple bucks poorer than if I'd gone elsewhere. I can't go every night, but it's certainly an affordable and worthwhile splurge.

  • Bob Scott WFood is bland and everything tastes the same. Hushpuppies were as hard as a rock. Service also sucked.

  • Davis Graveyard Halloween Display RVegetarian food is a bit lacking. But that is what you would expect for Southern food. Bring back the grits, not just on Wednesdays. :) One of my fav bar in the area - great service, great people!

  • becca p.I've been here twice, and while I like the fun, divey atmosphere, the food was disappointing both times. If you handle the wait, Screen Door has better eggs sardou and better service.

  • Megan D.Very disappointed in the changes here. No more sweet potato fries. No substitutions on sides, even for an extra charge. No more choices. :-(

  • Star B.Goddamn they have some delicious cocktails! I'm in love with the Rose Drop: rosewater, vodka, and lemon.

  • Matthew S.The meals are well prepared if inauthentic. It is as though the menu was created by someone well read on southern food, but is an outsider. Avoid the fritters masquerading as hush puppies.
