  • kelang review20 minute wait for a check is awful...and the food didn't make up for it.

  • kelang reviewFOOD POISONING! The scallops tasted funny, so we didn't finish them, and I spent the entire night and part of the next day vomiting ferociously, and with terrible stomach pains. Other people have been and have had great experiences, but for us ... we'll never go back. It's been 6 months, and I still can't even look at seafood.

  • dwenandrews reviewWe go to 42nd Street to get seafood AFTER we visit the coast. This is fresh, perfectly cooked seafood at better prices than the coast and the service and quality of the food is more reliable than picking a place at random at the coast. Without hesitation it is THE place to get seafood in Raleigh.

  • Ataraxia reviewVery popular so = wait! but not bad, just fit in and enjoy.Loud though = festive

  • kyshara reviewWhenever I travel on business to Raleigh I dine here almost exclusively. Try to get there early for dinner unless you don't mind waiting. I enjoy the atmosphere. I love the fried oysters. Take a friend and enjoy!

  • ChefMozUnfortunately I find in my many dining experiences, people always tend toward fried "something" seafood. Here, don't. They're better than that. Sit at the oyster bar. Have them shuck you a peck of steamed oysters. THAT's the real show. Galveston oysters, I believe (big and fat). YUM! Steam them medium. When your set up of cocktail sauce, horseradish and clarified butter along with a side of coleslaw arrives on a tin plate for shells, get ready to dig in. Also, try the seafood bisque, or ANY of their soups, prepared fresh daily. Their seafood "Norfolk Style" never ceases to please. Twice baked potatoes are average, but NOwhere have I EVER seen SUCH a clean, spotless, odor free seafood restaurant on the eastern seaboard. Also, every time I go here, even years apart, I still see the same servers. That leads me to believe the management and the money MUST be right. If you're in Raleigh, eat here for seafood.

  • WarrenCarmichae reviewA MUST place to dine when in Raleigh! It can be a bit noisy when crowded. Service by college age people is always very polite and very good. Large selection of well prepared seafood entrees served in generous portions.

  • craigshepard reviewWe had a great time !! The only problem was the wait to get a table. We waited at least 1 hour. If I had been by myself, I would have had to leave. I couldn't stand that long to wait, but since there was 9 of us, we talked and passed the time ok. I loved the food, and the atmosphere. I would go there again.

  • ChefMozWe ate here last night. The best thing? The Key Lime Pie....by FAR. The hush puppies were also very good. The blackened Mahi Mahi was okay, not great. The salad was sub-par. The steamed vegetables, nothing special. The service was great.I would only go back for the pie, though.

  • ChefMoz I dined for the very first time last night and was very impressed. The food was great and we had very good service. The only disappointment was the cheese potato. It wasn't what I was expecting. I will definantly go back!

  • ChefMozI had a fantastic dining experience at 42nd st. The service was good. The Fat Bastard wine was-despite it's name- a very good wine recommended by our wait staff. The steak was cooked to perfection. I had the love of my life with me- The atmosphere was not overly romantic but allowed just a bit of ambiance in...so it was a night with my best friend that may have allowed the friendship to spark even more than it already had. I look forward to my next visit.

  • ChefMozPretty good over all. It wasn't my favorite but all around good. It's got good music too. I would go back if I could, but I moved away from the area.

  • ChefMozI have been a regular here since they opened in '87. It's a terrific place to take clients and a great spot for good music, good beer and good service. If you've never been you need to check it out. Another thing, these guys always have the cleanest restrooms in Raleigh.

  • ChefMozI went to this restaurant after hearing it was the place to get good seafood in Raleigh, and was very disappointed with the quality of the food and the prices. I had fried shrimp, which were so overcooked and dry that they might as well have been frozen if they weren't. Sides were nothing special, except for the price. Way overrated.

  • ChefMozThe 42nd St. Oyster Bar is a favorite spot for the movers and shakers in North Carolina's capital city. Fresh seafood is brought in daily from the restaurant's own fishing boats. The beer and wine selection is fantastic, including several regional and antional microbrews. Highland Kashmir IPA is a very good selection. We waited for our party in the bar section and found that happy hour offers fresh oysters for $3/dozen. The cocktail sauce is homemade and they include extra fresh horseradish on the side to spice it to taste. All the food we ordered for dinner was plentiful, fresh, and very very good. Fresh hushpuppies with butter are laid out while ordering and are almost a meal in themselves. I was disappointed with the cheddar potatoes with my meal which are twice baked potatoes with cheddar cheese melted on top. However my wife's sour cream and chive mashed potatoes were great. I had the mahi-mahi, my wife had the scallops and shrimp. My brother won with the baked seafood platter - scallops, shrimp, and a halibut steak baked with bay seasoning. The place is very busy and the service is outstanding. One of the better places I've been.
