  • alexchan reviewI am from Malaysia, previously resided and worked in San Francisco Japan Town. I have tasted many western cuisine and steak house and even compared with those in my home country, I have to certainly give a double tumbs up for this great place that serves great prime rib with immaculate service. Dined there many times for business & pleasure and would definitely visit again and again if in town.

  • danielpilot reviewI think you are crazy:Emphasis on steaks??????Upscale steakhouse????Whoever wrote your review on the House of Prime Rib got his restaurants mixed up. You are providing a disservice not only to the restaurant, but to the whole community.I suggest you send a competent person to review this restaurant and change your review ASAP. I also left out that you are also providing a disservice to yourself by showing your inability to get the facts right. Sincerely, (A loyal House of Prime Rib fan for 30 years). George Crowe

  • ecureuil15 reviewExpect to pay $40 to $50 a person here, not the $12 to $20 that's suggested. The food is good, and they'll give you more if you ask for it, though, so bring a big appetite (as well as a big wallet)!

  • misteropus reviewGreat prime rib! The complimentary second helping is a plus. For good prime rib, I'd eat here. For a good steak, I'd go down the street and eat at Harris'. Both are good beef spots that can co-exist.

  • lennysf reviewI came to this restaurant for the first time last year, and I plan to make this an annual special occasion visit. It was superb! The prime rib was everything I had heard that it was. The atmosphere was extremely comfortable. You just felt relaxed. It was excellent, and now I know where to get the best prime rib in the Bay Area.

  • akirchner reviewI ate at this restaurant with my family, and I loved it. The prime rib was the best I've ever had, the atmosphere was warm and relaxing, and our server had a great sense of humor. I would recommend this place to anybody.

  • sfdiner reviewThis was one great place to eat.My wife and I with another couple gave it a try.We are from Louisiana, were food is always good.It was fantastic. The way they serve you is a real treat, with the rolling ovens.Botm line the food was very good.

  • paerljak reviewWho wrote the review for the House of Prime-Rib????? Apparently, he/she has never been there. As a patron for 40 years, let me state a few facts. There are no steaks sold there nor are there any C'sar salads. As far as the various side dishes, the dinners are accompanied by potato (Mashed or Baked), creamed spinach and Yorkshire pudding. This is an outstanding restaurant and individuals who read your reviews should be entitled to a clearer picture than the one you have painted.

  • missyp00 reviewYUM!

    44444 by missyp00

  • bkoretz reviewPeople have no common sense as to how to dress in a restaurant like this, and what kind of staff allows this fast-food style dress code? I was so disgusted to see: shorts and tennis shoes, baseball hats worn backwards, oversized tee-shirts and sweatshirts, baggy jeans, and the prison look-you know-like someone just got raped in prison. And you can't even hear the person you are dining with! When paying over $30 for just the meal, you want to have a nice atmosphere; not here. It use to be a favorite of mine-I will no longer go until they enforce some kinds of dress code.

  • danielpilot reviewBest Prime Rib in San Francisco. All of my clients and friends that I take rave about the food. Still hungry? A small second serving is available.

    44444 by danielpilot

  • edwardchilders reviewLoved the prime rib, service, atmosphere and wine list! However, the entree prices were in the $20 - $30 range. We saw nothing on the dinner menu under $20. Since the price includes the entire meal or entree, salad, potatoe, & vegetable, it was still a great meal at a reasonable price.

  • kanakabuddahead reviewDon't make reservations for Mother's Day! A 6:30PM reservation for 2 did not result in a seating by 9 PM & after 2 1/2 hours in their bar, buying expensive coctails, we left. On a subsequent visit (a second chance), the prime rib cut was thin & gristley. It used to be a fun place with great service & huge cuts that had to be finished at home. Something happened. Probably impressed by their own hype. I won't be back...

  • lovelobster reviewFor a restaurant with a name like this one, they should not hire a rude host. There is no excuse for a 40 minutes wait for a customer with a reservation.

    11111 by lovelobster

  • keverne reviewI called to make a reservation and the lady in the office who answered was incredibly rude. She basically acted like someone who hadn't smiled in 10 years. I could tell she didn't care much for her job. I called twice more within the next two weeks (once to reduce the number of people and once to see if we could get in earlier), getting her the first time and another guy the second time. She was unfriendly as ever during my second encounter, and the man was also rude. These people should try developing some social skills. So far, not too impressed with this place. When we actually went to dinner, the prime rib was excellent, but the service lived up to my expectations with snobby staff who could definitely be knocked down a few pegs. I left my sunglasses there, and called back the next day, only to hear that familiar unpleasant female voice from the office. She informed me the glasses were nowhere to be found (though she only took about 10 seconds to confirm this), and acted as though I was bothering her by calling. Too bad I won't be going back there, because the food really was delicious.

  • MichiganVisitor reviewI've never had better prime rib, but every staff member I interacted with, other than one delightful waitress (who unfortunately did not serve us), was incredibly arrogant and rude. They acted as if the restaurant's reputation and status somehow made them more than mere restaurant workers. Nothing wrong with working at a restaurant, but don't act like you own the place, even if you do, because with that attitude you can only succeed in making a previously-loyal guest decide to start trying out the competition.

  • alexchan reviewI am traveling back to San Francisco in April. After being away for 4 years I can still remember House of Prime Rib. Fantastic atmosphere, old English styling. Large silver carts that bring you Prime Rib so tender that you don't need a knife. Watch as your personal `chef` carves the beef to your specification, prepares an incredible salad w/ beets and tangy house salad (worcheshire is in it - I think), large bakers w/everything or savory mashed potatoes. Yorkshire pudding tops it off. Best of all is the creamy spinach. MMMM...I will be dining there soon. To this day, I have NEVER had such a perfect meal. Perfect every time.

  • dalindoff reviewThis is my all time favorite restaurant...by far! The atmosphere, the service, the FOOD! Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, my God, the SALAD! Can't say enough about this place and I miss it so much (we moved east 6 years ago). We ate here as often as we could, but not often enough for it to lose it's specialness for us.

  • haramie reviewThis is the most consistently excellent restaurant I have ever experienced. From the in-the-sharker martinis to the table prepared salad (that can't be duplicated no matter how hard I try) to the consistently excellent prime rib dinner, this restaurant has been my favorite venue for prime rib for 14 years. Each experience had been consistently perfect.

  • sierrabound2004 reviewThis restaurant has turned into a complete joke. It is not at all the good dining establishment it once was. My party and I ate there last Saturday night and the service was terrible. The worst of it was that I got an awful piece of prime rib--all gristle. I complained to the waiter and believe it or not, he took away the meat but then put it in a doggie bag for me to take home! I thought he would have given me a decent cut but no...I end up with the same awful piece of prime rib. The bill for this meal came to over $200 for five of us. I will never eat at the House of Prime Rib ever again.

  • alexkoshellward reviewI have lived in the Bay Area for over 20 years and this is my favorite (and, in my opinion the best) restaurant for steak, prime rib and some seafood. What really gets my highest award (and I am the daughter of a chef) is the salad and the creamed spinach--outstanding! Bart and the staff are courteous, helpful and among the best in the City. I love it!

  • jonnettleton reviewCustomer Service. NOT!!! Ive never seen a worse case of outright rudeness and disregard for customer satisfaction in my 25 years of sales and entertaining. Steve, one of the managers, needs to be reminded of what made this facility popular in the past and what it takes to keep customers coming back. Id wait for current management to change before patronizing this establishment with clients again.

  • hokpwah reviewHouse of Primbe Rib has always been one of our favorite restaurants. Great food, service, etc. However, 6 of us went there for dinner yesterday and 5 of us got stomach problem - 2 had serious diarrhea. The only one didn't get sick only had a few bits of the prime rib due to lack of appetite. I called the restaurant the day after and talked to the owner Joe. He offered me a tour of their kitchen operation indicating it would not be their fault. It would be a far trip for me and I really didn't see the point of the tour... I got sick and I don't care about how the kitchen operates. And what are the chances of 5 people getting sick after eating at the same restaurant??

  • ChefMozThe food is not modern, but boy is it good. The big booths, tableside preparations and amazing prime rib will transport you to a bygone era. Choose the portion, thickness and doneness of your prime rib, and enjoy all the fixings: salad prepared at table, creamed spinach, big baked potato and Yorkshire pudding--and seconds, if you can! You will feel very well taken care of.
