This was the first place in San Fran that I made reservations for, after our flight, before even our hotels. This was the second Asian place in the two days, however it was Burmese yesterday, Vietnamese this time...

  • trumantiger1 reviewWhen one of the so-called `best Asian restaurants` in SF serves a chocolate eclair or apple strudle for dessert..how good can it be? Maybe for tourists but not locals.

  • sfx1 reviewOne of the best restaurants in SF. My favorite place to go when entertaining out-of-town friends.

  • edwardchilders reviewFabulous food, pleasant service, great view (at the temporary 100 Brannan Street location). I was put off at first thought--my husband and I were visiting from Chicago and had a 7:45 p.m. reservation on a Thursday night. We met some friends unexpectedly in town and asked if they would like to join us. However, Slanted Door could NOT up our reservation from 2 people to 4--not until 9:45 p.m. I thought that was just ridiculous--but after waiting about 45 minutes and sitting at 4 barstools for dinner (instead of waiting for a table!) it was made clear why we had to wait so long! The food was magnificent, complex spices paired with simple ingredients (the shaking beef and the seared Ahi were tops) that were out of this world. The Chef/owner got wind that we couldn't up our reservation from 2 to 4 people, and he was very nice, he comped a wonderful salad and tea for us. In all, our bill for 4 people, including 4 beers and a martini was only $120! I think the pricing was wonderful, considering the quality of food and the wonderful service. I don't know how anyone could say it was `pricey.` Overall, I would highly recommend Slanted Door, and I will go back time and time again when in San Francisco!

  • sftjr14 reviewA selection of starters and main course shared between four was a welcome relief from the bland and gelatinous variety served up in most Asian restaurants. Atmosphere was good and service was above average. Front desk manager more than made up for the long wait with her good humour and winning smile. A touch on the pricey side but just aobut worth for a once in a blue moon visit. Could see how others saw it as hyped.

  • danielpilot reviewwhat are they crazy..the food is so over priced here, the service is not up to par with this price range of food.whoever said it was under 8 dollars a person is way off of base...i think they are trying to be like straits cafe but straits is 100 times better....we will never go back...another example of a place thats all hype...

  • lennysf reviewmy first time visiting SF and was quite lucky to score a table here. imperial rolls were delicious but the real winner of the evening was the caramelized shrimp. succulent, flavorful & just downright yummy. i recommend it to all.as with most asian restaurants, i'd skip the dessert.

  • yummy4mahtummy reviewThe food was magnificent!!! The shaking beef was tender, and extremely tasty. The eggplant had a bite to it, which was wonderful. Overall, wonderful!!

  • yummy4mahtummy reviewInteresting experience. We ordered one of the many rieslings, which turned out to be a bad, but we didn't bother mentioning it because we brought a bottle of our own. $15 cork fee. We were offered rice, charged for it, but it never came. We were delivered pork crepes instead of vegetarian, which was caught by a waiter about five minutes after the delivery. The appetizers came slowly, the last delivered with our entrees, after they took away our appetizer plates. The entrees did not all come at the same time, or even remotely. The food was good, but the ahi tuna was expensive and a very small portion for the money. The waiter changed the paper on our table in the midst of our meal and we all had to lift our plates and entrees. Our final bill $167 for four ($35 bottle of wine and $15 cork fee). We figured we had been charged $4 for rice, so we figured it out of the tip, and left 10%. The waiter chased down our dining companion, incredulous and asking 'Was it that bad?' We wanted to leave the tip for the chefs, and in retrospect should have because the waitstaff did not seem to have it together. So ultimately at about $45 a person, I'd rather go somewhere else. Maybe for take-out it would be worth it.

  • missyp00 reviewFood is good, but restraurant is pretentious. Noise level is loud- very difficult to carry on a conversation with the person across the table. Reservation system is ridiculous- if you don't remember your confirmation number you are S.O.L., because they `know how to `take` the reservation, they just don't know how to `hold` the reservation.`

    22222 by missyp00

  • kelder review`Atmosphere: Table talk is no problem here - noise level is unobtrusive.` NOT TRUE - RESTAURANT IS VERY LOUD!

  • mehrig reviewhorrible PLACE AND MANAGEMENT YOU HAVE TO BEG FOR A TABLE WITH RESERVATIONS DO NOT GO THERE UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING DOMINATED AND WALK OUT FEELING LIKE TRASH

    33333 by mehrig

  • cmartin reviewThe food was fantastic. Noise level at lunch time was unbearable. My friend and I found it almost impossible to carry on a conversation. The decor and noise level reminded us of a school cafeteria.

    22222 by cmartin

  • hokpwah reviewThey do not serve California wines, only exported wines (French & German mostly). When we asked why, they gave us the lame excuse that CA wines did not pair well with their food! We pointed out that their customers probably didn't pair them well either since there were no wine pairing suggestions on their menu. Also, many people don't go there for the food, just to have a glass of wine. Their food was not good. The beef was tough and the ahi was sliced in huge hunks. The wait staff had an attitude. We will not go there again.

  • natandgosha reviewI've been here three times trying to find out why some people say it is over rated. I just can't get enough!
