  • SFTom reviewWhen the restaurant tab for four non-drinkers approaches $200.00 and you walk out hungry, you know something is wrong. Mecca specializes in artistic arrangements of very little - albeit flavorful - food on your plate, so if you must go, don't hesitate to order the works from soup to nuts if you want your appetite satiated . . . but be prepared to pay the price. There is little value here, and for the exorbitant prices being charged, you'd expect the decor to be on the classy side, but Mecca - with its concrete floors and exposed pipes and ducts overhead - resembles nothing more than a warehouse with heavy brown velvet draperies strategically hung to try to disguise the fact. Avoid live-jazz Mondays if you'd like to be able to converse and not leave with a splitting headache. The crowd here is typical of those who flock some place new to be part of the `in` crowd and keep going back because they can't see the Emperor's not wearing any clothes. Head to Chow on Church @ Market - just 1 1/2 blocks away - to have a far better meal for a lot less money.

  • rbutter reviewWhen making the reservation for a party of 7 the man on the other end was very polite. He even offered a few suggestions for my Dads birthday, like a custom birthday cake or piece of cake with writing Happy Birthday DAD on the plate. I picked the Happy Birthday Dad choice. After being seated, the waiter, in front of everyone, asks me what type of birthday dessert I wanted for my Grandma. I got out of my chair and told the waiter to follow me and we went to the reservation desk in the front. I told both of them, the waiter and the lady at the front, that it was my DADs!! birthday and that next time be sensitive to the fact that my DAD is sitting at the table with us. Simple common sense!! Well, the waiter was rude the entire night. My Grandma asked for the soup selection and he said we dont have soup in a rude manner. Ok, let me skip to the dessert part. The waiter brought out the birthday piece of cake with a candle. That was good. He placed it in front of my DAD and said happy birthday than ran to another table. He didnt sing or show any enthusiasm. I dont know if this guy has NO personality or if he just figured well Im getting my 18% no matter what because its guaranteed for parties over 7 or what!! This is not the way you keep customers coming back! Well if I had a choice I would have given this guy 10%. He lucked out on the guaranteed 18%, let me tell ya. My DAD had the lamb and it was prepared perfect. I tasted it and it melted in my mouth. My brother and I had the Peppered Tuna and that was very good. My wife had the chicken and that was also very good. The dessert was also very good. The wine, both red and white were very good, cant remember the names. My dirty belvedere martini was the worst dirty martini Ive ever had! It literally tasted dirty as in toilet water. My drink is a dirty martini and this was no dirty martini! So if you put all of them together the 420.00 price tag was not worth it! See what a difference a waiter can make!

  • barbaraeb reviewGreat atmosphere and good food but the experience was overshadowed by formula-fake service and an extremely overpriced wine list that offered no lower priced wine alternatives. The least expensive wine I saw was $59, and the were out of stock. That price level does not match the entree levels. Inexcuseable.

  • todd1 reviewdear eat green, It is blatantly obvious that you do not comprehend fine dining. First of all $420.00...is a bargain for 7 people & 2 different `colors` of wine. If there is a soup d'jour to be had, it will be stated on the bill of fair and it is your responsibility to discern that little fact. Next point: if you wanted a song go to chucky cheese or olive garden; people of good breeding do not require the staff of the establishment that they are a guest in to sing for their enjoyment, they are not your trained canary. Which brings me to probably the most important point; from the sound of it the poor guy earned his 18% just by putting up with you. Please do not get me wrong if he was truly reprehensible it did not help matters that you lead him to the host stand to be reprimanded by you in front of his

  • mrbtxtc reviewI knew when I saw the Mecca BLUE DROP on the menu I had to order it, because the color was just so blue. Its basically the best lemon drop you can ever order, and the bar staff is so friendly!!!! I had an amazing time, I had just come in for a cocktail to check out the scene but it was so great we stayed and ordered some delicious appetizers, which happened to be only $1 per oyster as it was a happy hour. I think I have found my new favorite restaurant!!!!!
