  • ChefMozIt is 6:00pm on Valentines day, two friends and I who are on the road and have had to abandon our own Valentines for work have set out to find some interesting dining in downtown Stuart. Perhaps a challenge on any holiday in this interesting community, but even more so on the one night of the year that calls upon couples to express their love for one another and what better way than a quiet dinner sharing great food and possibly and favorite bottle of wine. Ah yes, and back to the three amigos. We make our way along the streets, stopping at several interesting establishments in hopes of finding a chance opening for three, only to be graciously turned away for not having a reservation. Alas, we pressed on and thankfully so, as the inviting beacon of the Gusto restaurant came into view. A bit gun-shy, as Gusto was clearly as busy as any we had queried for a table, we were warmly greeted at the door and assured that they would accommodate us at the bar with a full menu offering.Our new location offered a commanding view of the interior. Tables are nicely arranged with adequate room for guests. The décor is clean lined, warmly colored and elegant, but still offered a comfortable casualness to be found inviting. The open kitchen adds to the excitement of the preparations soon to be arriving to the table. Opening our menus while taking a taste of Chianti Classico, we were all impressed with the depth of offerings. It is obvious that a lot of thought went in to this menu. To start, the Caprice salad caught my eye. Tucked under the Buffalo mozzarella and tomato was a breaded and perfectly fried and seasoned slice of eggplant. Artfully drizzled over the top a thick aged Balsamic. The eggplant lent a delightful contrast in texture and temperature to the classic salad. Meraviglioso, simply meraviglioso. My friend’s spoke very highly of their Caesar salads with the dressing created in house served with shaved Parmesan.Now on to the Secondi. One of the advantages of eating at the Gusto bar area is you have the perfect view of the tempting varieties of entrées being delivered to the tables. This time I thought I would try the Farfalle con Pollo E and Asparagi. The bowtie pasta was firm and giving. Pencil asparagus just cooked though lending a light crunch of freshness and bright garden green. The Portobellos screamed of earthy goodness. A sauce of roasted garlic and light cream held the dish nicely together and did not overpower the star ingredients of chicken, asparagus and Portobellos. One of my friends ordered the Spaghettei Alle Vongole and raved how the Vongole were very tender and expressed them selves very balanced to the cherry tomato sauce. A twist of fresh pepper and a light dusting of Parmesan brought it into the spotlight. Lastly was the order of Fettuccini Alfredo. My friend commented that the alfredo was creamy and delightful. Nicely seasoned along with perfectly finished pasta. What caught my eye was how silky the sauce appeared. It gave a harvest lunar glow to the pasta that added dramatically to the experience.On this night we only scratched the surface of this impressive menu and plan to revisit Gusto many more times. Go to dine at this one -- you will be delighted.


  •  Sit in a table behind the bar and you can listen to classic rock during your meal. We did, at least.

  •  try the Dover sole if its available... Not easily found in this area and they serve it properly. Great tasting fish !

  •  Great meal, great service as usual at Gusto's. I had the Italian sea bass (whatever that is) in a broth translated in English as "crazy water".
