Taco Casa Reviews

  • Quick review:I grew up around Tuscaloosa, Alabama where Taco Casa has several restaurants. While the Tuscaloosa-area locations invite you to "dine under the biggest cactus in town," the two Vicksburg locations are a little more understated. It was with great pleasure, however, to discover that they are indeed practically the same as the ones I 'grew up' with back home.I dropped in for an early lunch and started off with a taco salad. It's one of my favorites at the other locations and does not disappoint here. It is ground beef, refried beans, lettuce, sour cream and salsa and/or tomatoes in a crispy and light tortilla bowl. Absolutely wonderful.Next I tacked a sancho. It's a burrito with ground beef, cheese and shredded lettuce. I don't know if they marinate the lettuce or if it just soaks up the seasoned goodness of the ground beef, but the combination makes a wonderful flavor and texture, both soft and chewy and a little crunch, too. It's one of my favorites. Finally, a willing friend and I split the nachos. They're served in a smallish bowl, consisting of yellow round tortilla chips, nacho cheese sauce, a scoop of refried beans and sour cream. Oh, and jalapenos if you so desire. They didn't look impressive or plentiful but were actually quite tasty and made a good meal on their own. And at just $2.49, they were something of a bargain. Finally, it's worth noting that the sweet tea here is quite good, just like the Alabama locations. If you've read my other reviews you know how I enjoy a good strong sweet tea, and Taco Casa's doesn't disappoint. Now that I know these are here, I'll be stopping at them anytime I'm in the area. If you're a fast-Mex fan, these places are too good to pass up.
