La Tabernadel Alabardero Reviews
Good atmosphere and that's all we can say about it. We asked for the “Black Paella” mentioned in the main review here, which was not in the menu. Instead, we were served the “Black Rice” appetizer but were charged the entree price. We paid about $75.00 including taxes and tip for two servings of very hard rice with heavy squid ink, three rings of calamari and a couple of shrimp. Hardly worth 1% of the price charged. Other dishes were good but no better than what you can get at other restaurants in the area for half of the $70.00 price we paid for two fish dishes. The “Tapas” and Sangria were good but were still much higher priced than other Spanish restaurants in the area. Overall, we found this restaurant to be very overpriced and completely overrated.
We had the best meal we've had in Washington for a long time. And it is only 5 blocks from Constitution Hall for this year's Opera fans.

Now open on Sundays for lunch. Check out the special Sunday paella menu. $22. The pork cheek paella is delicious. Very tender.
I reviewed this restaurant while on-staff at the Washington Diplomat... it's the best Spanish cuisine outside of Spain.

I love sitting on the patio sipping Spanish wines, eating tapas and watching the World Bankers walk by... (also, patio is dog friendly!)

Missy Frederick says: "Check out the new pinxto bar. A snack, similar to tapas and often served on toothpicks. New items just added to their bar. (WBJ 1/14/11)
